ICE activities reported in Glenn County
Law enforcement in Glenn County received notices from Immigration and Customs Enforcement the federal agency would be making arrests within the county. The Glenn County Sheriff’s Depart- ment was advised of the agency’s activities a week ago.
“Deportation officers conduct enforcement actions every day around the country and here in Northern California as part of the agency's ongoing efforts to uphold public safety and border security,” said James Schwab, an ICE spokesman. “Our operations are targeted and lead-driven, prioritizing individuals who pose a risk to our communities.”
In the notice from ICE, the sheriff was told the agency would be dealing with people holding criminal records. However, ICE did not give the sher- iff any information about residents they arrested or were currently investigating.
“Normally, I don’t get any time of release on specific people they arrest; it’s not my job to oversee another policing agency,” said Sheriff Richard Warren. “I just want to assure our residents they’re not being targeted because they’re illegal.”
ICE indicated they would only be operating in the county for a week, Warren said. But the department hasn’t received verification the federal agency’s operation has ceased. It’s uncertain how many arrests ICE made within the county.
