MPD schedules Citizen’s Academy
The Marysville Police Department will hold a Citizen’s Academy on Thursday nights for 10 weeks starting May 18.
Unlike a normal police academy that includes pushups, shined boots and drill instructors, the 2017 Citizen’s Academy is intended to provide local residents with an in-depth look into the department and the individuals that make up the city’s police force.
“Our hope is that participants will learn, in great detail, about what we do, how we do it and why we do the things we do,” said Sgt. Nelson Magana.
The academy will be Thursday nights starting May 18, from 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m., over a 10-week period. Classes will be at the Caltrans building in Marysville – 703 B St.
“We believe the academy experience will be a positive way for the department and community to learn from each other,” Magana said. “The academy will benefit citizens through education and empowerment, the department through a better understanding of the wants and needs of the community, and, ultimately, the community as a whole through the relationships built.”
Marysville PD is accepting applications from residents living in Yuba-Sutter who are 18 years or older and can pass a background check.
