Two more admit guilt in cocaine trafficking case

- Appeal-Democrat

Two of six suspects arrested in Yuba City in connection with a 2014 cocaine trafficking scheme have pleaded guilty to federal drug charges, according to court records.

Justin Byun and June Chungil entered their pleas this month to a charge of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to dis- tribute at least 5 kilograms of cocaine.

Sentencing before U.S. District Judge Garland Burrell Jr. was set for July 7. The each face up to 63 months in prison.

Byun, Chungil and the four other defendants were arrested as they allegedly tried to transport 134 pounds of cocaine from Southern California to Northern California.

They were arrested in Yuba City on Dec. 21, 2014, after an alleged transfer of the drug occurred in the parking lot of a hotel, where four of the defendants were staying.

Last year, one of the defendants, Kamaljit Billen, was sentenced to 33 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to the same charges as Byun and Chungil.

The remaining defendants are Gurdeep Singh, Sonia Kim and Julius Caubat.
