Plentyofroadworkgoingon

- By Rachel Rosenbaum

There’s plenty of roadwork going on or about to be going on in the Yuba-Sutter area. Here’s a rundown:

A residential resurfacing project recently placed rubber cape seals and slurry seals on various streets throughout the city, said Deputy Public Works Director Ben Moody.

The maintenance project improved portions of Gray Avenue, East Onstott Frontage Road, Winship, Pease Road, and other residential streets throughout the city.

Garden Highway. However, night work will require a full road closure between Lincoln Road and Winship Road.

Second Street underground project: Pacific Gas and Electric Co. is working on the city and county project to place existing overhead power lines underground and reroute gas facilities on Second Street near Bridge Street in Yuba City. The project is not part of an upcoming bridge replacement project, Moody said, but is being coordinated to correspond with the Fifth Street Bridge design.

The undergrounding project started in May and is expected to be complete in September. Most of the necessary street closures have already occurred. However, additional traffic control will be necessary throughout the remainder of construction.

existing bridge will remain open during construction except for short periods of time primarily at night or on weekends. Various lane closures on Bridge Street, Second Street, and Sutter Street in Yuba City and Fifth and J Streets in Marysville will be necessary throughout construction with detours in place. The city has identified several special events during which lane closures will not be allowed, Moody said, such as the Marysville Stampede, Marysville Peach Festival, and Yuba City Sikh Parade.

The Butte House Road bike lane project will widen the paved shoulder on both sides of Butte House Road between Madison Road and Royo Ranchero Drive for the purpose of installing dedicated bike lanes. This project is expected to begin construction in September and be completed in the fall. Lane closures will be required with detours in place periodically throughout the duration of construction.

The Bogue Road rehabilitation project includes rehabilitating the roadway

between Railroad Avenue and Garden Highway. Construction is expected to start later this summer or fall.

Public Works confirmed there is no roadwork currently being done within the city limits (aside from potholes being filled), though there is some planning in the works.

John Mallen, senior engineer with MHM Inc., said there will soon be work done at 12th and J streets; the project will (hopefully) go out to bid in late August or early September. Mallen said the project includes curb, gutters, and sidewalk.

The city’s work in relation to the Fifth Street Bridge replacement project includes rehabilitation and pedestrian improvements, Mallen said. A proposal for a project study report for a new connection at Second Street is getting ready to be put out to bid, he said.

North Beale Road is in the process of getting new paving, drainage, curb, gutters, and sidewalk, said Public Works Senior Engineer Steve Campbell. Construction is expected to last through October or November. Work is taking place during the day, typically from 7 a.m.-4 p.m.

In Olivehurst, work is continuing on Seventh

Avenue; it should complete the first or second week of August, Campbell said. That project also includes curbs, gutters, sidewalk, and drainage.

District 3 Spokesman Gilbert Mohtes-Chan said the only work Caltrans is currently doing in the area is adding a second left turn lane northbound at Fifth Street. Crews will be working overnight around Fifth Street and Highway 70 (E Street) and at Highway 20 (10th Street) between the 10th Street Bridge and E Street. There will be overnight lane closures from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. Sundays through Fridays.
