Yuba County sponsors inaugural Children’s Summit
with autism.
Reveles, who also chairs the Yuba County Children’s Wellness and Child Abuse Prevention Council, said children do not exist in a vacuum, but in relation to complex factors at home, school and in the community.
He said the summit basically comes down to presenting three main questions, which he boils down to: “The what?”; “So what?”; and “Now what?”
Whereas the former two questions involve presentation of the issues and how they directly and indirectly impact everybody’s life, the latter question is meant to engage decision makers.
Reveles said in past experiences, there have been elected officials who were overloaded with information and at a loss for what they could do in their position.
In contrast, the summit’s intention is to not just provide information on overarching issues but to see how it relates specific to Yuba County and more importantly, what agencies within the county are doing to affect change.
Representatives from area-assemblyman James Gallagher’s office will address the forum, as will former California State Superintendent of Public Instruction and gubernatorial candidate Delaine Eastin, who will share her perspective regarding the critical need for closer cross-agency collaboration, Reveles said.
