Franklin Elementary School Yuba City
In honor of Presidents Day, Monday is a school holiday.
The bands from Franklin School and Twin Rivers Charter School have been working toward a combined production, working on the same pieces and practicing together. The performances will be on Wednesday at Twin Rivers Charter School and Thursday at Franklin School starting at 6 p.m. The production is under the joint leadership of Obie Leff from Twin Rivers and Jeff Poppinga from Franklin.
Friday is the end of the second trimester.
Twin Rivers Charter School Yuba City
The Twin Rivers Band and Franklin School Band have joined together for a combined festival. The two bands have been practicing the same pieces and have had some combined practices. The bands will perform at Twin Rivers on Wednesday starting at 6:30 p.m. The performance at Franklin School will the Thursday evening. The events are under the direction of music teacher Obie Leff from Twin Rivers and Jeff Poppinga from Franklin.
Our spelling bee, to determine our contestants for the Sutter County Spelling Bee, was held Friday. The results will be out soon. Representatives from the fourth-, fifthand sixth-grade classrooms competed for two positions, and one alternate, who will go on to compete at a later date at the county level.
Tierra Buena Elementary School Yuba City
In honor of Presidents Day, Monday will be a school holiday.
On Feb. 7, Tierra Buena School held its spelling bee to determine who our participants will be in the Sutter County Bee for 2018. The first-place winner is Tanvi Joshi from Ken Kennedy’s sixth-grade class. Second place winner is Simar Sahota from Alison Miller’s fourthgrade room. Both will be entered in the county Bee. Tierra Buena’s alternate, in case one of the other contestants can’t compete, is Jeevan Sahota from Pattie Keene’s sixth-grade classroom. A great thanks to Alison Miller coordinator, judges Melanie Deal, Sharyn Noall and eighth-grade student Benji Savala. Also, Assistant Principal Yvonne Anast-erb served to read the words for the students to spell.
On Friday, the seventh- and eighth-graders will have a dance in the multi-purpose room.
Faith Christian Elementary School in Yuba City is hosting a free Kindergarten Readiness Night with information plus expert tips.
The one-hour event is at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at 2620 Colusa Highway.
The evening helps answer questions such as how to know if a child is ready for kindergarten and includes a free kindergarten readiness tool kit and speech and language screening at no cost. Childcare is provided. This is the school’s second year hosting the evening. Visit fcs-k12.org for more information.
A new scholarship is available for students in Yuba and Butte counties who are interested in a career in environmental horticulture, agricultural science, conservation, forestry, floriculture or a related field.
The scholarship is offered by the Redbud Garden Club in the Sierra foothills.
Applicants must be a high school senior planning to enroll, or currently enrolled, in a two- or four-year program in one of the listed fields at an accredited educational institution; and have at least a 3.0 grade point average the previous year only. The garden club includes Yuba and Butte counties residents from many different backgrounds who share a love of gardening.
