Colusa County

-

Colusa County residents will have an easy election this year, as nearly all open positions have already been decided. Of the 10 county seats up for election, nine are held by incumbents with no opposition.

Supervisor, District 1 This is the only position to be decided by voters. The post was held by Kim Dolbow-vann, who decided not to run as an incumbent after receiving a federal appointment to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Because Vann isn’t running, the filing period for this position was extended to Wednesday; meaning more candidates could potentially file. Candidates so far include:

Merced Corona, 54, Arbuckle, is a retired Colusa County Sheriff’s deputy with 26 years of experience. During his law enforcement career, he was runner-up in an election for sheriff. Currently, Corona manages his family’s rental properties.

Johannes Lauwerijssen, 63, Arbuckle, is a former rice farmer who operates an area rice dryer. Lauwerijssen serves as the vice president of the Family Water Alliance.

Incumbents running unopposed are: Denise Carter, supervisor, District 5; Arnold “Arnie” Gross Jr., assessor; Peggy Hickel Scroggins, auditor-controller; Rose Gallovasquez, clerk-recorder; Matthew Beauchamp, district attorney; Joe Garofalo, sheriff-coroner; Daniel Charter, treasurer-tax collector; Michael West, superintendent of schools; Elizabeth Ufkes Olivera, superior court judge.
