Yuba County assessment shows a need for more access to health services

a health literacy campaign, increasing access to providers – especially behavioral health and dental – and decreasing the number of uninsured residents.

“These two priority areas aren’t really unique to our county, you will find other counties experiencing the same sort of issues. But by narrowing them down to two priority areas, we can develop an action plan to address them. Then, our coalition partners will take those plans and make sure we are following through on them,” Quick said.

The idea is to conduct community health assessments every 3-5 years, Quick said. That includes assessing what is plaguing the county, coming up with ways of addressing it and having coalition partners monitor those goals to make sure they are being accomplished.

“When we go to conduct our second assessment, we will look at what worked, what didn’t, ways we can improve and so forth,” Quick said. “It’s a process that will take several years, but we are focused on making meaningful change in the county.”

However, in order for the process to work, Quick said, it will require more than just county officials to buy in.

“We need the entire community to take ownership of this for it to work and for us to successfully address the issues,” Quick said. “We hope compiling this information will help the community make more informed decisions and get involved.”
