Here’s hoping for full houses at series of local candidate forums

-

Dates have been tentatively set for candidate forums hosted by the Yuba-sutter Chamber of Commerce and moderated by former radio newsman Bob Harlan and Appeal-democrat Editor Steve Miller.

Yuba County candidate forums will be in the Yuba County Government Center; Sutter County candidate forums will be in the Yuba City Council chambers. Each session will last about 45 minutes and there will be two sessions per date, starting at 6 p.m.

Moderators will pose questions; attendees are encouraged to write out their questions and send them up. Citizens who want to pose questions are also welcome to email them to Adnewsroom@appealdemocrat.com or by messaging us via the Appeal-democrat Facebook page. A survey will be opened later this month as another venue for submitting issues and questions.

The tentative schedule of Wednesday evening forums:

April 11: Yuba County supervisor District 1 candidates: Andy Vasquez (incumbent), David Joyce and Joan Saunders. Yuba County assessor candidates: Ernie Thompson, Steve Duckels and Steve Souza.

April 18: Sutter County supervisor District 3 candidates: Paul Basi, Bert Manuel and Mike Ziegenmeyer. (District 2 Supervisor Dan Flores, running unopposed for re-election, will be allowed a 5-min. presentation.) Superintendent of Schools candidates: Baljinder Dhillon (incumbent), Joe Hendrix and Tom Reusser.

April 25: Yuba County District 5 supervisor candidates Randy Fletcher (incumbent), Alton Wright and John Mistler. Yuba County sheriff candidates Wendell Anderson and Teng Saechao.

May 2: Sutter County district attorney candidates Amanda Hopper (incumbent) and Chris Carlos. Sutter County sheriff candidates Dennis Hauck, Brandon Barnes and Jeff Pierce.

Candidate forums work best when there are plenty of voters there with plenty of questions for the candidates. We’d love to see a series of full houses.
