Last year, the Country Florist was celebrated as the 2017 business champion of Yuba County. This year? Officials will crown a new winner at the upcoming Yuba County Business Appreciation Luncheon.

“The county hosts this event annually to thank the local businesses that are located in Yuba County,” said Brynda Stranix, president and chief operating officer for the Yubasutter Economic Development Corporation.

The ninth annual event is scheduled for May 18 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Peach Tree Golf and Country Club.

Each year, one business is celebrated as champion of the county. Stranix said the county looks at a variety of factors including longevity and if the business hit a milestone that year.

Other past winners include Soper-wheeler, Inc., Beale Air Force Base, Cotton Rosser/cotton’s Cowboy Corral, Frank M. Booth, Union Lumber, Naumes, the Country Florist and Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm. The event dates back to 2010.

In addition to picking one business to celebrate, Yuba County Administrator Robert Bendorf will give a “state of the county” speech, and Yuba County Water Agency Board Chairman Brent Hastey will also update those in attendance on what the latest is with the water agency, Stranix said.

Two people from every Yuba County business will be able to attend the event at no cost. Seating is limited, however, so those hoping to attend must RSVP by May 11.

Stranix said the best way to RSVP is by calling 751-8555 or emailing ysedc@ysedc.org.

The event is sponsored by Yuba County, Yuba-sutter Economic Development Corporation, Recology Yuba-sutter, Rideout Medical Associates, Rabobank, Frank M. Booth, Inc., Renaissance Vineyard and Winery, and Valley Contractors Exchange.
