YC Preview Day aims to help college hopefuls
The first step toward a higher education can be difficult. Potential students are confronted with a range of applications to fill out, financial records to collect and an assortment of tasks to complete before even stepping into a classroom.
In an effort to make that first step a little less daunting, Saturday’s Yuba College Preview Day is a chance for those interested in attending to speak with financial aid staff, teachers and counselors about their educational future.
Amandeep Kandola, director of counseling at Yuba College, said the upcoming event was intentionally planned for a Saturday, so those busy with work and most in need of initial guidance can attend.
“This is an opportunity to provide a one-stop shop for those considering going back to school and get ready for summer and fall classes,” Kandola said. “This is also an opportunity for our community to check out what is offered at Yuba College. Kandola said the event will also be a way to inform attendees about the newly released Yuba College Promise, which offers paid tuition for new, full-time Yuba College students for up to two semesters.
The Yuba College Promise specifically targets the 30 percent of the population who report incomes above the financial aid threshold and who are new, full-time students (12 units plus) at the college, said Yuba College President G.H. Javaharipour in a past interview.
For high school students considering concurrent enrollment, Saturday will be the first day they can officially sign up for classes, Kandola said. For those interested in the benefits and challenges concurrent
