Two arrested for roles in March shooting
Yuba City men identified by police after months-long investigation
Two Yuba City men were arrested in connection to a March shooting tied to an alleged marijuana deal gone bad.
Khai’sean T. Smith-love, 19, of the 900 block of B Street and Clarenece Pierson, 20, of the 1600 block of Edwin Drive were arrested by Yuba City police Monday after a months-long investigation, Sgt. Steve Thornton said.
Smith-love and Pierson – along with Jakiem G. Halstead, 19, of Yuba City, who was arrested in March – are accused of shooting a 20-year-old Sacramento man, leaving him with non-life threatening gunshot wounds in an arm and leg. Police think there could be a fourth suspect, Thornton said.
Police believe the victim and two of his associates were in the area attempting to sell marijuana when Halstead, Smith-love and Pierson allegedly attempted

Following the shooting, the men were reportedly found with more than a pound of cannabis in their vehicle, according to Appeal-democrat archives. The victim’s associates – Ramon Keye, 23, and Jordyn Tolbert, 20, both of Sacramento – were arrested following the shooting on suspicion of transporting or selling marijuana, possessing cannabis for sale and criminal conspiracy.
Police believe shots were exchanged between both groups of men, though the 20-year-old victim was the only person known to have suffered injuries, according to archives.
