Ohio State suspends Meyer for three games
in 2009 and 2010. He is a veteran of 153 games and 120 starts.
Last season, Rodgers-cromartie played in 15 games with six starts and no interceptions for the Giants. He began the season as a starter, but was relegated to a reserve role and at one point was briefly suspended by coach Ben Mcadoo for an unexcused absence.
The signing gives the Raiders another veteran cornerback to go along with projected starters Rashaan Melvin and Gareon Conley. Other cornerbacks include Daryl Worley, Leon Hall, Shareece Wright, Nick Nelson Dexter Mcdonald and Antonio Hamilton.
Ohio State suspended coach Urban Meyer for three games, along with athletic director Gene Smith, for mishandling a domestic abuse case.
Meyer, who won’t be on the sidelines for games against Oregon State, Rutgers and TCU, will return to coach the Sept. 22 game vs. Tulane.
Meyer has been the subject of an investigation into the handling of domestic abuse allegations against former assistant coach Zach Smith. Meyer has been on paid administrative leave since Aug. 1.
The Ohio State trustees hired an outside law firm for $500,000 to do the investigation, which took two weeks.
The investigation centered on what Meyer knew and did about allegations of abuse against Smith, who was fired July 23 after his wife sought a protective order.
Meyer has said he handled the accusations properly when he found out about them, but acknowledged he lied to reporters at first when he said he hadn’t heard of the incident. – Appeal-democrat news services
