It’s not that the small community of Camptonville doesn’t want a new Verizon cell tower, they just want one that will improve communications for their own residents. They’ll have to keep waiting. Yuba County officials approved a conditional use permit this week for a planned Verizon cell tower that will be placed in Camptonville. The decision came as a result of an appeal hearing requested by the Camptonville Community Partnership (CCP) attempting to block the board from approving the permit.
“We are not opposed to a cell tower in Camptonville. Although we believe at the proposed location, neither the community of Camptonville, or our emergency services (USFS fire engines and CVFD), will be served by this tower location,” said Cathy Leblanc, executive director of the CCP, in her July 20 appeal letter to the county.
The county’s Development Review Committee approved a conditional use permit for the project during a July hearing, prompting the CCP, as well as a number of other entities within the Camptonville area, to write letters requesting the Board of Supervisors block the decision.
