New attorney appointed for 16-year-old accused in deadly Linda stabbing
The teenager accused of stabbing and killing a Linda man last month appeared in Yuba County Superior Court on Wednesday.
The 16-year-old boy was appointed a new attorney and the case was continued to Feb. 4 for the setting of a transfer hearing where the teen’s suitability for juvenile court or adult court will be considered, Yuba County Deputy District Attorney Shiloh Sorbello said.
The teen was arrested after allegedly stabbing Cody Dymon during a brawl involving several individuals at a party in Linda. Deputies determined that a party had been going on at an apartment complex in the 6000 block of Gossett Way around 2:30 a.m. Dec. 30, when several subjects got into a physical altercation, police said. During the fight, Dymon was stabbed. He was transported to Adventist Health and Rideout where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
The teen was later arrested and booked into the Yuba-sutter Juvenile Hall. He is facing charges of murder with use of a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury and assault likely to produce great bodily injury. He faces 16 years to life imprisonment, Sorbello said.
Two adults, who were allegedly involved in the fight, were also arrested on suspicion of battery causing serious great bodily injury: Christopher Chavez, 18, of Marysville, and Juan Lorenzo Acosta, 19, of Linda. The victim of the battery was treated at the hospital and released. The pair have not yet been charged in Yuba County Superior Court.
Yuba County deputies do not believe the fight was gang-related. Business hours: Monday-friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Main number .................... Steve Miller ......................
