PREP ROUNDUP Faith Christian boys pull off comeback win

Sutter’s Schmidt leads Huskies to 3-1 win vs. Oroville

The Faith Christians boy’s basketball team went down early by a score of 16-2, but were able to fight their way back towards a 78-67 defeat over Western Sierra.

“It was a good team win by the boys. I’m really proud of how they responded after being down early,” said Lions head coach Rick Daugherty.

Leading the stat line for Faith Christian were Nikko Rodriguez and Tye Morrison who each finished the night with 22 points.

Also contributi­ng towards the win for the Lions was Ben George who scored 20 points.

Faith Christian (11-7, 5-2) will be back in action when they hit the road to face off with Buckingham Charter on Tuesday.

GIRL’S BASKETBALL

Sutter 46, Oroville 37 In Sutter – The Sutter girls basketball was able to come out victorious on Thursday when they defeated the Tigers by nine points.

Leading the way for Sutter was Kaytlyn Aleman with 18 points, two assists and two steals.

“I’m really happy with the way she (Aleman) played, she did an amazing job tonight,” said Sutter head coach, Brandee Barton.

Other notable performanc­es came from Macie Purbaugh with 12 points and Sienna Hundal with six points and 16 rebounds.

Sutter (4-0 in league) will look to keep up the good work when they face Las Plumas on Tuesday. Western Sierra 50, Faith

Christian 11 In Yuba City – The Lions girl’s team was unable to secure a win on Thursday as Western Sierra ended the game with a 39-point win.

Despite the tough loss, the Lions saw solid play from Avery Johns with five points and Lilly Elliot with 11 rebounds.

Faith Christian (3-11, 3-4) will now practice and look to bounce back when they face Buckingham Charter on Tuesday. East Nicolaus 50, Williams 21

In Williams – The Spartans were able to secure a resounding road victory on Thursday when they defeated the Yellowjack­ets by a 29-point margin.

Leading the Spartans in the stat line was Tiara Ceasar with an impressive triple-double that included 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals.

Also contributi­ng were Jane Menigoz with 14 points and Natalie Butler with seven points.

The Spartan junior varsity team also won by a final score of 40-15.

East Nicolaus varsity (11-8, 1-2) will play at Hamilton on Tuesday. BOY’S BASKETBALL

Freshmen River Valley 55, Antelope 52

In Yuba City – The Falcons freshman team was able to come away with a solid victory on Thursday night.

River Valley saw a great performanc­e from Brady Chipchase with 22 points and Collin Tottman with 10 points.

Luke Ratacvak also contribute­d to the stat line by netting 10 points in the win.
