Live Oak girls soccer best Durham 8-0

River Valley girls defeat Bella Vista 59-20

The Live Oak girls soccer team came away with another solid 8-0 victory on Thursday when they faced off against the Durham Trojans.

The match saw multiple two goal performanc­es as Baylee Alvarado, Bella Goodson and Valerie Gaytan each scored twice.

Erika Angel scored a single goal and the other point was marked as an own goal by Durham.

“It was a great team win today and hopefully we can keep it going as we head into our final week of league play before the playoffs,” said Lions head coach Mike Owen.

Live Oak (15-3-2, 11-1-1) will face Williams at home on Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Junior Varsity

Bear River 48, Marysville 42 In Grass Valley – The Indians junior varsity girls team was edged out on Thursday night by bear River as they were unable to overcome the Bruins in the later stages of the game.

Mercedes Fang led all Indians with 15 points including three 3-pointers. Next in the stat line for the Indians was Katen Johnson with 13 points and Alex Raya with 11 points.

“We have two games left, so hopefully we can finish strong next week,” said coach Keith Carl-

son.

Marysville JV (12-15, 5-3) will play at home on Tuesday vs. Foothill.

Varsity Lindhurst 35, Foothill 26 In Sacramento – The Blazers girls basketball squad came away with a clutch victory on Thursday as they edged out Foothill by a nine point margin.

Lindhurst was led by Danika Martin with eight points, Reina Schwan with eight points and Makaili Pepper with seven points and 11 rebounds.

Lindhurst (4-17, 3-5) will travel to Colfax on Tuesday. Bear River 58, Marysville 21

In Grass Valley – The Indians varsity girls basketball team fell short on Thursday night when they lost to the Bruins by a margin of 37 points.

Kamara Richardson and Wendy Sifuentes led all Indian scorers as each player tallied eight points and 12 rebounds.

Marysville will now prepare for their final home game of the season on Tuesday night vs. Foothill. All seniors will be honored for their time playing in the Marysville basketball program. Faith Christian 40, Sac Country Day 33 In Sacramento – The Lions girls basketball team came away with a solid road win on Thursday night as they defeated the Sacramento Country Day School.

Lilli Elliot lead the way with nine points and 13 rebounds while her teammate, Bri Brennan notched nine points and nine rebounds. Also contributi­ng in the stat line was Avery Johns who dished out a game high ten assists.

Faith Christian (6-14, 6-7) will play at Western Sierra in Rocklin on Tuesday. River Valley 59, Bella Vista 20 In Yuba City – The Falcons were able to secure a sound win on Thursday when they defeated Bella Vista by nearly a 30-point differenti­al.

River Valley was led by Harleen Mattu with 18 points and six rebounds while Nelli Barboza also pitched in with 13 points and five steals.

Sareen Lally made her name well known at the River Valley gym on Thursday as she notched nine points, three rebounds as well as seven steals on defense.

River Valley (13-12, 4-6) plat at Woodcreek on Tuesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL Durham 67, East Nicolaus 48

In Durham – The Spartans boys basketball team suffered a loss on Thursday night to their northern neighbors, the Durham Trojans.

Gavin Mcauliff led the way for East Nicolaus with 23 points while his teammate, Westin Dunbar pitched in with 12 points of his own.

“The game was closer than the final score suggests, not to mention being down a started which didn’t help,” said East Nicolaus head coach Tyson Earhart.

Prediction: Ryan Blaney DARK HORSE CONTENDER: There’s a number of qualified candidates here – Aric Almirola, Brad Keselowski, Jimmie Johnson and a few others – but none are as in-their-prime as my pick, Kyle Larson. Larson won four races in 2017 before a disastrous engine failure in the playoffs prematurel­y ended his breakout campaign, and then last season he was unable to get back to Victory Lane. That said, he did finish in second place an unbelievab­le six times, proving he’s still on the cusp of something greater. If even half those situations had gone the other way, we’d be talking about Larson as a legit championsh­ip contender. This year, he very well might be.
