Several events remain on the calendar in celebration of Black History Month
Kyisha Barnettsmalling, of the Tri-counties African American Alliance and the Black Student Union at Yuba College, helped build a robust schedule of events for Black History Month. She’s hoping the activities gain notice.
“Yubasutter is very diverse,” she said. “Growing up here, I watched as everyone came out to support the Chinese New Year, Bok Kai parade, Sikh parade and Farmers and Peach Festival, but I can barely remember anything being done for Black History Month.”
Here’s what’s still to come:
Black History Club Celebration, Feb. 14 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Yuba College.
Tribute to the Arts Feb. 16 from 1 p.m.4 p.m. at Yuba Sutter Arts Council.
“Justice Pending,” a speech by Rachanee Jackson, Feb. 21, from 6 p.m.8 p.m. at Yuba Sutter Arts.
Community Black History Celebration Feb. 24 from 3 p.m.6 p.m., Ettle Hall.
Reading of poet Langston Hughes’ “I, Too, Sing America” Feb. 28 from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at Sutter County Library.
