East Nic defeats Mt. Shasta

Sutter takes down Wheatland in two games

The East Nicolaus Spartans baseball team took down its playoff opponent in Mt. Shasta on Friday night by a final score of 5-3.

Leading the way for the Spartans were numerous hitters including the following players: Mitch Barker, who went 2-for3 with a three run home run and Tyler Jensen and Caleb Born who each finished the day going 1-for-2.

On the mound for the Spartans were Jaykob Butler and Connor Timmins who each did a good job of shutting down Shasta’s rally efforts.

Butler pitched four innings, striking out four batters, allowing six hits and zero earned runs. Timmins came in relief with three innings of hitless baseball.

East Nicolaus will face No. 2 seeded Modoc on Tuesday. The Spartans will be playing in Modoc. The start time has been set for 4 p.m. Sutter 13, Wheatland 12 Sutter 11, Wheatland 1 The Sutter Huskies eliminated the Pirates in the teams’ best of three series on Friday at Sutter High School.

Notable stats for game 1 included the following players: Cory Mcintyre went 2-for-3 with an RBI; Austin Dorman went 1-for3 with a triple and four RBI; Alec Bell went 1-for-2 witha triple and two RBI; Dawson Yartz went 2-for4 with two doubles and three RBI and Brandon Taddy went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.

On the defensive side in the first game, James Tapia threw three innings and got the win while Dorman came in relief to earn the save.

In game 2, the Huskies saw standout performanc­es from the following batters: Dorman went 1-for-3; Austin Jones went 3-for-3 with two homers and four RBI; Bell went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Tapia went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs.

As for the pitching in game 2, Dorman threw innings allowing no earned runs and tallying the win.

The Sutter baseball team (25-8) will now play the winner of Lassen and Corning who face off on Tuesday.
