‘American Idol’ contestant to perform at concert in honor of fallen officer

Arbuckle area residents have rallied together to show continued support for native and fallen officer Natalie Corona and her family.

The native and Davis Police Department rookie was killed in the line of duty in January. In the months since her death there have been several fundraising events, including the Cowboy Honor Ride, Color it Blue Ride and Run, a memorial fundraising golf tournament and more. There is also a state Assembly resolution in the works to dedicate a portion of Interstate 5 in Colusa County as the Officer Natalie Corona Memorial Highway.

Just like those events, the proceeds from a Thursday evening concert at the Colusa County Fairgrounds go directly to the Natalie Corona Memorial Fund.

Headlining the show will be Josh Gracin, a fan favorite the second season of “American Idol.” Also performing will be Wade Hayes, Jonny Owen and Gregor Ross.

Tickets are $35 at the Colusa County Fairgrounds Office or online – www.colusaconcerts. com. The show is May 23 at the Colusa County Fairgrounds, 1303 10th St., Colusa. Doors open at 5 p.m., show at 7 p.m. It is a family-friendly event and children are welcome to attend.

Jason English, concert organizer and producer, said the concert was inspired while he was working on another event. While planning the upcoming “Bash for Bev,” a country music and car show that is slated for August, English was approached by talent coordinator J.J. Ford and asked if he would like to host a concert featuring Billy Ray Cyrus.

“I instantly thought of Natalie since he was nice enough to sing at her funeral,” English said.

From there, English decided to dedicate the night to Corona and went about setting it up.

Cyrus had to drop out at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances, but English said he decided to move forward with different artists because it wasn’t about the big name headliner.

“We then realized it’s all about Natalie anyway,” English said. Business hours: Monday-friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Closed for lunch: Noon-1 p.m.
