Charles Robert “Bob” Carmack, 87, of Rackerby, California, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2022. Bob was born on May 17, 1934, to Charles and Marie Carmack in Cincinnati, OH.

Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia; son, Robert Carmack and wife Shelly; daughter, Rebecca Whitaker and husband Mark; daughter, Carol Jensen; son, John Carmack; 17 grandkids; and 25 great-grandkids.

Although born in Cincinnati, he moved to southern California at age 10. During his younger years he marched in the Rose Bowl Parade and again in the Rose Bowl game while playing the trombone. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He had a long career with Sears and managed the repair department.

Bob moved his family up to northern California in the later 1970’s. He enjoyed country living and cultivating a garden when he could keep the deer out. Early spring he’d spend his time panning in the creek and discovered a few nuggets to put in his pocket.

Bob loved playing card games, whether it was a late night of pinochle with his brothers and sisters-in-law or a hot game of cribbage at the dining room table. His love for games didn’t stop at cards. He enjoyed playing board games with the family, managing to fool everyone while Balderdashing. Saturdays always included an afternoon of Bingo. He never missed a San Francisco Giants game. A true avid fanatic. He once spent his time, while on vacation, on the upper deck of the cruise ship, on his portable radio listening to the game. Go Giants!

Bob was talented. He could create a pencil sketch portrait of anyone in the room within 30 minutes and then give it to them. Most considered him intelligent. It showed. He was a keen debater and passionate about his topics. You can find many letters to the editor published in some major newspapers. Anyone want to discuss global warming?

A graveside ceremony, honoring his life and military service will be performed at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd., Dixon, CA, on Monday, May 9, 2022, at 11:00 am.

Warren was born in Racine, Wisconsin, to Herbert and Isabel Gulbronson. An Air Force veteran, Warren came to the Yuba-sutter area after being stationed at Beale Air Force Base and served as a local dentist for many years. Warren wore many hats: dedicated husband, caring father, supportive grandfather, devout Catholic, and passionate golfer. His legacy and love live on in his family and community.

Our wonderful Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother, Matilda "Jean" Fruetel, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 19, 2022.

Jean was born on March 20, 1934, in Yuba City, California, and lived in the Yubasutter area her entire life. After graduating from Wheatland High School, she attended Heald College in Sacramento, where she completed her schooling to become a secretary.

Jean was employed at Beale AFB when she met her future husband and the love of her life, Albert (Buck) Fruetel. They married in 1953, together raised two children, and were actively involved in the family farming operation. They eventually settled in Rio Oso in 1969.

Jean was known for her love of animals and during her lifetime had pets of all kinds. This included a pig named Petunia, civet cats with their spray glands removed (so they could live in the house with Petunia), a cow named Alberta, plus too many cats and dogs to count. She fed, loved, and cared for any and all with a special way of always making them feel welcome. They instinctively knew they had a home with her forever.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Buck; and her parents, William and Jessie Middleton.

Jean was part of a close-knit, loving family that includes siblings, Bill and Judy Middleton and Loralee and Albert Powell; children, Albert (Buck) and Glenda Fruetel II and Katie and Steven Mintz; five grandchildren, Rebecca and Andrew Gillespie, Jennifer and Brandon Vickner, Albert and Terri Fruetel III, Rachael and Garrett Elms and Emily and Sam Daddow; and 14 great-grandchildren, Audrey, Christian, Sophia, Maddox, Hank, Corbin, Savannah, Owen, Hallie, Grant, Trevor, Brooklyn, Asher, and Natalie.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of Matilda’s love of all animals, please donate to the ASPCA, Humane Society, or an animal charity of your choice.
