Joyce Gorgoletis Ford

-

Joyce Gorgoletis Ford, 88, of Woodland, CA, after a two year illness is finally at peace. She went to rest on April 11, 2022.

Joyce was born in Tulsa, OK, November 26, 1933, to Arthur Talley and Ruth (Anderson) Talley. She attended South Yuba City grade schools in first through eighth grade, then finished at Yuba City High School.

After finishing school she met and married Kenneth Dozier. Shortly after, he signed into the Navy and they were shipped to Oahu where he served for two years. While there Joyce gave birth to their son.

After leaving the service they lived in Hillsboro, OR, for three years. After giving birth to their daughter they moved back to California to be near both families. In mid 60s, after becoming a single parent, Joyce moved to the Bay Area and became a Health Consultant, and hair stylist at one of the Health Clubs in Oakland.

She met her future husband Peter Gorgoletis at a Pub he owned near the Port of Oakland. With him being of Greek faith she then studied and became an Orthodox Christian, and Godmother to her husbands little nephew.

Her husband was the owner of Port Lite Cocktail Lounge, located a walking distance from Port Of Oakland, CA. They ran the business together for ten years before the passing of her husband.

Joyce continued to operate the business well into the 1980s. While there she met a gentleman who was at that time with Southern Pacific Railroad, John Ford. They went into a beautiful marriage and several years after he retired they moved to Woodland. During the next eight years they worked on making their home a beautiful sight. They added a little weeping willow that is far beyond little today.

Approximately eight years later, living in the valley was when she took ill, and the day came for John to take care of her. He was with her as her in home care provider 24/7. Today she is truly missed.

She is survived by her loving husband, John Ford; son, Larry Dozier (Maja); daughter, Kerry Dozier-segale; godson, Tommy Gorgoletis; sisters, Judi Talleypate (Ron, Sr.), Sher Talley, Sharon Weber Gilmore; brother, Royce Talley; several nieces and nephews; granddaughter, Michelle Mincer; grandson, Harley Segale (Colleen); six great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Johanna and Jennifer; and other members of John Ford's family.

She is preceded in death, her husband of ten years, Peter Gorgoletis; her brother, Wayne Talley; stepmother, Mildred Brooks; and sister-inlaw, Geri Talley.

Service will be held at Sutter Cemetery, Sutter, CA, Monday, May 9, 2022, at 11:00 AM.

Virginia Ruth "Gini" Gill, was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend to many. Gini left this world, on April 15, 2022. She would have called this her coronation day.

Gini was born to Howard Magnus and Katherine Louise Anderson in Twin Valley Minnesota on April 7, 1936. After graduating from High School, she attended North Dakota State, where she received her bachelors in Home Economics with a minor in Chemistry. Being a teenager in the 50’s she aspired to see the world by becoming a stewardess. While taking classes in Hawaii, she met a friend of her soon to be introduced future husband, Roy Gill, who was a pilot in the USAF. They had three children, Bill, Dave, and Julie.

Gini taught at 4 different schools in MN and ND, prior to marriage and loved being a military wife. She had a passion for creative pursuits such as painting, crafting, reading (her favorite was Atlas Shrugged) and sewing. She was an accomplished pianist, who could play nearly every song by ear, and at 16 played every Sunday for her local church. She was a member of many social and philanthropic clubs throughout her life, from Job’s Daughters to a sorority, to PEO in her later years.

Perhaps Gini’s strongest legacy was her love for Jesus and for people. She had an indomitable spirit that nearly always saw the best in people or situations. Her smile was infectious and disarming, and she could establish a quick rapport with nearly everyone. She used to say “You can seldom determine what happens to you, but you can always determine your reaction.” Those who didn’t know better would often mistake this for naiveite rather than choice. She had a robust sense of humor and loved using laughter to provide levity. She also truly loved people. This was characterized by always having a warm smile, good hospitality, and deep conversation at the ready.

Celebration of life will be held at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church in Yuba City, CA, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

Ellie Miller, Sydney and Parker Graves; sister, Becky Mitchell; many cherished nieces, nephews, close friends; and her beloved dog and best buddy, Scruffy.

Connie was born on November 7, 1942, in Oroville, CA, and graduated from Yuba City High School. At age 19, she married the love of her life, John Wise, which began a love story lasting 51 years.

The love Connie shared with John was contagious and she spread it all around her. She is the mom everyone wished they had, and her home was always open and filled with kids, visitors, animals (much to her chagrin), and laughter.

Connie was an accomplished piano player and liked to fill the house with music, singing, and even her impressive jitterbug. She also loved fishing and would happily tell you all about the time she hooked a giant sturgeon.

Connie loved to love on people. She shared that through her creativity and prowess at the sewing machine and all things crafty, and through her joy of cooking for others. She often sewed her daughter’s clothes, even a wedding dress and matching Easter dresses and bonnets, and made and mended countless stuffed animals and Halloween costumes over the years.

During holidays especially, she baked and shared hundreds of her home-made creations and hosted large family dinners, celebrations, barbeques, and a legendary bicentennial 4th of July party. That was a very special gift to those who knew her.

Cute and sweet are two words everyone universally uses to describe Connie. She was that, but also so much more. Tough as nails, Connie would spend all day on the riding lawn mower conquering acres of grass and then fixing the mower herself when it inevitably broke down.

Connie was fiercely competitive and certainly did her best to win any competition, be it tennis or a game of Words with Friends! She was also a talented artist who taught herself on a whim how to create beautiful paintings. And she did all of this while surrounded by laughter thanks to her great sense of humor and spunk.

Connie lived and loved to the fullest and this will be the legacy she leaves behind to friends and family.

Graveside service will be held at the Sutter Cemetery (Sixth St. entrance off Butte House Rd.) on Monday, May 2, 2022, at 2:00pm. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather at the French Whisk, 1974 Acacia Ave., Sutter, to celebrate Connie’s life.
