With great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, and uncle Michael Shaun Cannon at home on July 5, 2022.

Michael was proud to be known as a native Sacramentan. He was born to parents Clarice and James Glen Cannon on June 6, 1950, at Mercy General Hospital, where his mother Clarice worked as an RN. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and former wife Carol Cannon.

Michael attended Marshall Elementary, Sutter Junior High School and was a proud graduate of Sacramento High School and excelled at academia all his life. He graduated from UC Davis with a degree in English and attended graduate school at UC Santa Barbara. After graduation Michael was drafted and served in the US Navy in Vietnam, receiving an honorable discharge.

In his early life, Michael was active in the Boy Scouts of America, attaining the rank of Life Scout, and was highly active in the Order of the Arrow Scouts.

Michael’s work life was vast and varied, starting off as a carrier for the Sacramento Bee, then moving on to work at Jenovino Brothersbon Air Market in Midtown Sacramento. After college, he worked for the State of California at several agencies in differing capacities, first at the California Medical Board and the Little Hoover Commission, and then working for the Office of General Services managing the conversion of a former state hospital site to the Stockton campus of CSU Stanislaus. After leaving state service he went on to become the Assistant Superintendent of Facilities with Natomas Unified School District. He later founded Educational Facilities Project Management, a firm that specialized in the planning, financing and construction of school facilities and remodels throughout Northern and Central California. Working from feasibility through to the finished product, primarily with smaller school districts, Michael dedicated his work to delivering the best product in the most timely and efficient way possible. Projects varied from projects at the Natomas Charter School for the Performing Arts to a remodeling of Lake Tahoe Community College, constructing agricultural buildings for Hamilton City School District to construction for Napa Unified School District and Dixon Unified School District. He participated in the building or remodeling of many other projects from elementary to high schools throughout the region.

Michael enjoyed sailing, vintage cars, cooking, enology and reading. He was a prolific reader, consuming an inordinate amount of books per month, numerous magazines and at least three papers every Sunday. This led to him being well versed in a myriad number of subjects, in addition to being one of the best amateur couchjeopardy players ever known. Michael also enjoyed traveling, with his favorite places being the North Coast of California and especially the rolling hills of Tuscany and Umbria. Close friends and family were Michael’s mainstay, and he was always there if you needed him. His three greatest loves were his wife, PJ, daughter Katie and his 1965 Porsche 356 C Coupe.

Michael leaves behind wife PJ Brokaw, daughter Katie and her husband Ryan, brother Pat Cannon and his wife Sherri, nephews Sam and Cameron Cannon, countless friends and his beloved dog, Charlotte.
