Anita F. (Rosellini) Russell, of Yuba City, CA, passed away May 18, 2023.

She was born in San Francisco, CA, on February 6, 1917, to Pietro and Ines Rosellini, growing up in San Mateo County, CA. She lived in Yuba City for 26 years, having lived in Redwood City previously.

Anita is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, George. She is also preceded in death by her 2 younger brothers, Ilda Rosellini and Marino Rosellini.

She is survived by her 2 children, Roselyn Pillinini and Norman Russell; 2 grandchild­ren, Dino Pillinini, wife, Lisa and greatgrand­daughter, Grace; Lisa Pillinini, partner, Stephanie and greatgrand­daughter, Mary.

As a child, her family moved a lot, and she went to several grammar schools. She attended Half Moon Union High School for four years and was secretary of her class. She graduated in 1935. Anita is the last survivor of her senior class.

She worked in the shipyards in San Francisco during WWII, followed by her long term as an employee for electronic­s firm Eimac which became a division of Varian and was later purchased by Hewlett Packard.

She and George had many friends and did a lot of Square-dancing and Ballroom Dancing. They enjoyed traveling, including a trip with their Square-dancing Club to Europe through seven countries and dancing in each of them.

Anita belonged to The Art Club and The Moose Lodge.

Anita made many friends easily. She was gregarious and genuinely interested in everyone she met. She was a devoted wife and mother, with unconditio­nal love for her family. Her life spanned an amazing 106 years. Her strength, beauty, and warm smile will be sorely missed.

A viewing will be Friday June 2, 2023, from 5-7 pm, at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 812 Almond St., Yuba City, CA. 530-673-9542

A celebratio­n of her life will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023, 1 pm, at St. Andrews Presbyteri­an Church, 1390 Franklin Road, Yuba City, CA.

In lieu of flowers a contributi­on may be made in memory of Anita Russell to The Alzheimer's Associatio­n or The American Heart Associatio­n.

John Leo Kelsey, 76, of Yuba City, California passed away on April 26, 2023 at Rideout Hospital surrounded by loved ones.

John was born July 31, 1946 in Waseca, Minnesota, to Leo John and Cecelia Ann Kelsey, but grew up in Quincy, California.

After graduating from Quincy High School in 1964, John attended Yuba College, followed by CSU, Sacramento where he studied law enforcemen­t. John worked in retail security, the Marysville Post Office, Randy’s Liquor Store and as a Yuba County reserve deputy while attending school. In 1974 when John graduated from Peace Officer’s Standards and Training at Butte Community College, he began his lifelong career in law enforcemen­t, first as a Deputy for Yuba County Sherriff’s Department and retiring as the Chief Fraud Investigat­or for Yuba County Health and Human Services.

John met his wife Barbara in 1972, while they both worked for Yuba County Health and Human Services and they married in 1983.

When John retired in 2002, being the avid conversati­onalist he was, he spent much of his time getting to know his neighbors and visiting with friends. He also expanded his culinary skills becoming quite the chef for Barbara and anyone lucky enough to be visiting.

In 2004 when John finally convinced Barbara to retire, they embarked on a seven week trek across the United States. The trip included many interestin­g places but John’s favorite was Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. Another highlight of their journeys that John loved so much was snorkeling in Hawaii. John and Barbara traveled for many years to different areas, but quite frequently found themselves in Humboldt County visiting John’s extended family who reside there. John and Barbara remained residents of the Yuba Sutter area during all their years together.

John was preceded in death by his father, Leo Kelsey and mother Cecelia Kelsey.

He is survived by his wife Barbara (Furmidge) Kelsey, sister Ann Rainey, 13 nieces and nephews, and 12 great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons can be made in memory of John Kelsey to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Laura Elizabeth (Estrada) Castro, age 41, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 28, 2023, in Sacramento, CA. She was born October 1, 1981, in Yuba City, CA.

Laura lived in the Yuba Sutter area for her entire life and graduated from Albert Powell High School. She was employed as a Medical Assistant and loved working in that field. Her quiet ways and kind smile will be missed by all, especially her family.

She leaves behind her parents, Henry and Becky Estrada; a brother, Nicholas; her husband, Dario Castro; and three children, Dario Jr., Isaac and Lexandra. She was preceded in death by her brother, Kevin.

Services will be Saturday, June 3, 2023, 11am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, 520 Clark Ave., Yuba City.
