Film Yuba-sutter held its quarterly meeting on May 3 at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts in Yuba City to update the community on its current metrics and prospective growth. This meeting was led by regional film commissioner Sabrina Jurisich with the Upstate California Film Commision.

In January, a freak accident left Jurisich injured and unable to walk for eight weeks. During this time she worked from home as much as possible and rallied her team to keep things moving.

“The amount of support that poured out from the filmmaker community was incredible and helped expedite my healing process,” said Jurisich. “On a practical level, my assistant Kate English, and many community leaders stepped up to make sure that presentations and meetings went forward as planned.”

The metrics covered at the meeting included statistics from both the current quarter, January through March, and the previous quarter from December 2022 through February.

Since December, the Yubasutter region has procured 14 inquiries including seven feature films, two documentaries, two music videos, one commercial, one TV series, and one web series. These inquiries led to one commercial production and the filming of one docuseries and a documentary. In total, the estimated economic impact of these gigs to the local community amounted to $98,500.

In addition to this, the Upstate California Film Commision recently welcomed several new board members including Marni Sanders to help represent Yuba and Sutter counties. Sanders spent six years as CEO for the Yuba-sutter Chamber of Commerce and now serves as the executive director of the Blue Zones Project Yuba Sutter.

“We feel that her wealth of knowledge of the local community will be a great asset,” added Jurisich.

Film Yuba-sutter is still building its social media presence and its website is open to the public. Those interested in listing their property for potential film use, or registering themselves in the group’s local talent base can do so at filmyubasutter.com.
