The Gay Galvin Trio in Concert; [Spring] is Bustin’ Out All Over
Robin Williams once said, “Spring is nature’s way of saying ‘Let’s Party!” and with Spring in full swing, what better way to get the party started than with a concert featuring the Gay Galvin Trio. Gay and her band will return to the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts, 754 Plumas Street in Yuba City on April 6 at 7pm for a celebration of Spring through jazz. Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased at yubasutterarts.com or at the Theater Tuesday through Thursday from 11-4. Tickets may be purchased at the door if available, but seating will be limited.
The Trio will perform classics from the repertoire including “Joy Spring,”
“Up Jumped Spring,” and
“Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most.” The
Gay Galvin Trio includes renowned jazz pianist and vocalist, Gay Galvin, along with Rich Celio on drums and Dylan Mcconnell on bass.
Gay Galvin has spent a lifetime performing music in classical and jazz styles. She has worked in big bands, musicals, jazz trios and various classical ensembles. Gay is also the founder of the Yubasutter Big Band Orchestra. Along with Tom Galvin, her musician husband, she played for the Applause series of concerts to help raise funds for the completion of the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts and now the community will reap the benefits of their hard work as she once again performs in the venue she helped create.
And as an extra added attraction, all the trio members are part of Tom Galvin’s epic songwriting and recording project for a new album called “Heroes and Victims.”
Tom’s song cycle is all about the history and people of Yuba-sutter and environs through a contemporary lens including the good, the bad and the ugly.
Our local history includes achievements of the human spirit alongside atrocities against noneuropean Americans. The album of twelve songs will reflect these issues.
Rich Celio decided he would pick up the instrument he loved but abandoned in high school to help stave off a midlife crise. He got a new drum kit and started venturing out, first at the local jams.
He has had the great fortune of playing with great musicians in the Bay Area and is now plugged into the local music scene and loves to help promote diverse musical styles.
Dylan divides his time as a bass player and a graphic designer specializing in logo/web design and brand development. Not surprisingly, he works with a lot of artists, musicians, nonprofit organizations, and educators, as well as authors and teachers in the local and global healing community.
