Born on April 3, 1935, in Sacramento, California, and dying of natural causes at the age of 88, on December 21, 2023, in Marysville, California, Sid is survived by his children, Christine "Chris" Mccormick, and James "Jim" (Amanda Johnson) Muck; and his grandchildren, Ross Mccormick, and Helen Mccormick.

Sid married Marjorie "Marge" Ries Miller in 1961, after meeting and dating while they were both students at the University of Nevada, Reno. Sid participated in ROTC while at university and joined the U.S. Army after graduation with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the Army as a Second Lieutenant.

While Sid did not pursue a military career, he spent his entire career as an employee of the United States government, first as a civilian engineer with the Army Corp of Engineers in Sacramento, and then as an engineer for the US Air Force at Beale Air Force Base located near Wheatland, California. He spent more than 30 years serving the citizens of the United States before finally retiring as the Chief Engineer for Beale Air Force Base.

The town of Wheatland played a key role in Sid's life and was the reason he took the job with the Air Force. As a child, Sid, along with his brothers Gilbert "Gil" and Robert "Bob" would accompany their father, Floyd, to the Muck Ranch located on Spenceville Road and home to the Mucks since 1855. Sid wanted to carry on the family tradition of farming in Wheatland, and in 1961, the newly married couple relocated from Sacramento to Wheatland renovating the family home as well as developing a walnut orchard.

Sid grew up on Santa Ynez Way in Sacramento, and recounted his upbringing in the neighborhood with great fondness. A 1953 graduate of Sacramento High, active in the Junior Red Cross, and a famously good dancer, Sid made friends he kept for the rest of his life. He was such a good dancer that on the weekends, he worked at the country club parking cars.

Parking cars is what he was hired to do but his real job was to dance with the ladies who were stuck in the club house waiting for their husbands to finish playing golf or socializing in the men's lounge. Sid was courteous, handsome, loved to dance, and most importantly, he cared about others. These attributes made him a great favorite at the club.

Sid served Yuba County for many decades as an elected board member for the Yuba County School Board between 1971-2010, and as a board member for the Yuba County Water Agency between 20052014. Sid was the kind of person you want on your board: arriving early and prepared to work.

Sid's frugality and creative bent were on constant display: he never met a piece of lumber that could not be repurposed or a replaced window that should be stored in the event of just the right project coming along. His children were treated to "mystery muffins" when he made breakfast on Saturday mornings, insisting that they guess the mystery ingredients; which were dribs and drabs of leftovers he found as he scoured the kitchen in search of items in need of utilization. The muffins were always good, if somewhat bewildering.

Sid's final years were happily spent at Prestige Assisted living in Marysville. Entertaining the staff with radio and TV jingles from the 1950s was a favorite pastime. Every member of the Prestige staff knew that if they said "Hey, Sid!" he would respond "Hay is for horses..." The kind staff soon learned to recite the expected response: "Better for cows, pigs would eat it but they don't know how." The family appreciates the care and attention that the staff at Prestige lavished upon Sid.

Sid's intelligence, persistence, and his many quirks will be missed by his family and friends. A private graveside burial will be held at a future date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lipp and Sullivan Funeral Directors.
