Color Confusion Exhausting Issues System Specifics

- WE TACKLE TOUGH READER QUESTIONS ON...

think you’ll agree. The spine color is designed to use the main accent from the cover, so while the cover images for the issues in question are very different, they use a similar accent, thus the similar (though really very different) spines.

Screen Scene

Approximately two years ago, in a monitor comparison, MaximumPC gave very positive reviews of the BenQ GW2765HT 27- inch 1440p IPS monitor. This monitor has dropped in price now. I understand that it has been some time, and technology has progressed, but for gaming and general desktop use, does this monitor still make the cut, or is there a better choice? Possibly another monitor comparison would be good.

EXECUTIVE EDITOR ALAN DEXTER RESPONDS: When we looked at the BenQ GW2765HT screen back in the February 2016 issue, it walked away with the Kick Ass award and won the screen roundup it appeared in. At the time, it had a list price of $ 350, which was half the price of the other stand- out screen in that test, the impressive Asus ROG Swift PG279Q. We’ve just had a quick look around, and the BenQ can now be had for about $ 300, which is a nice sweetener for an already great value panel. There have been a lot of developments in the screen market, but they tend to have focused on 4K displays, so while it is now getting a little long in the tooth, it’s still a great buy. You can pick up a 4K screen for only a little more, but we still see 1440p as the sweet spot for gaming, so this still gets our nod.

Being There

I’ve been a MaximumPC subscriber for many years, and always find something interesting and useful in every issue. I’m hoping you can help me with a question. I would like to find a “player” for Android and/or Windows 10 that will respond to the movements of the tablet to get the VR effect. I’m using a Gear 360 camera to create the video, but haven’t been able to find anything that will give me the playback experience I’m looking for. Any suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated. EXECUTIVE EDITOR ALAN DEXTER RESPONDS: What you’re asking for seems completely reasonable, especially as you’ll find the likes of Facebook and YouTube peddling the sort of experiences you’re trying to recreate, but it would appear that it isn’t as straightforward as you’d expect. In fact, looking around, we couldn’t really find anything that quite hits your brief.

The one thing we did find was the GoPro VR Player, which you can get for free from www.kolor.com/goprovr- player. Although it does enable you to play back your 360 videos and look around them, I’m not sure it does exactly what you want. Hopefully another reader can suggest something a little more immersive.
