Worrisome Wireless Woes

Wireless mice just aren’t really wireless anymore

-

WIRELESS MICE are becoming increasingly popular as the tech advances, and latency issues are a thing of the past now for most high-end wireless mice. In fact, the majority of mice we receive are either ultralight wired mice, or their heavier wireless brethren, with massive battery, charging cable, and optional magnetic parts.

When I read the word “wireless” something inside me makes me think that it’s without a wire. I am not sure what stirs up these emotions, it will likely stay a mystery forever—you know, apart from the fact it’s called “wireless.” So, why is it that after a hard week’s work, I log onto a fastpaced game to frag some noobs, and then get hit with a “please charge your mouse” warning? I now must move myself slightly, find the darn cable, plug the mouse in via the cord, and then charge it like a savage while I use it, completely defeating the point of the mouse. It’s probably the reason why I can’t become a pro gamer—definitely not my lack of speed, skill, and attention span. It is 100 percent that wire.

It doesn’t need to be like this, however. Logitech, Corsair, HyperX, Razer, ASUS, and other brands all have wireless charging mice. They’re just few and far between. They charge by just being on a mousepad—magic right? I haven’t plugged my Logitech G903 in since the day I purchased it. But as I’m usually using a review sample, often it’s pushed to the side while I play my “Will I have to plug in the mouse today, in the five minutes I get to relax before Zak makes me write something?” game. (Catchy name, right?)

Please, manufacture more mice with Qi charging or similar! I understand that they’re more expensive to produce, and I also understand that you must slap us with a crazy-priced mousepad as well to make that happen, but I can’t take it. Heck, the more they’re made available, the cheaper they will become anyway.
