BenQ Mobiuz EX3210U

The monitor for all occasions?

- –SAM LEWIS

THERE CAN BE MANY factors to consider when choosing a display, depending on whether you’re using your PC for work and whether that work relies on a coloraccurate screen. If you’re looking at a gaming monitor, then chances are it’ll prioritize a high refresh rate over color accuracy. Not so with BenQ with the Mobiuz EX3210U, which offers a monitor with 4K resolution, a gamer-friendly 144Hz refresh rate, and a wide color range. So does that make the EX3210U the ultimate all-in-one monitor?

32-inch monitors are often considered right on the cusp of being too large for a desk setup, but they deserve a look if you can mount one properly. Depending on your layout, this could double up as an internet TV, or a gaming monitor, or just a general display for daily PC procrastination. On the whole, this monitor feels sturdy and well put together, with a two-piece stand to evenly disperse its weight. It has a 5° tilt, swivels left and right at up to 15°, and can be vertically adjusted too.

The back of the monitor features a white shell with Mobiuz branding, subtle RGB lighting, and True Sound by treVolo. These speakers offer a warm sound, which is good enough for a monitor and general media consumption. If you expect something with detailed highends, you may be disappointed, but on the whole, they perform admirably. Below this is where all of the connectivity options lie, including two HDMI 2.1 ports and a DisplayPort 1.4 socket. An extra DisplayPort and maybe a USB-C would have been welcome, but at least what’s here is neatly covered by a shroud.

At the front, the monitor has thin bezels around the sides and top of the display with a thicker chin housing the Mobiuz EX3210U’s HDRi sensor underneath. This HDRi functionality is seen across BenQ displays—the ‘i’ stands for intelligence as the sensor reads your room’s ambiance and automatically adapts the displayed HDR accordingly. Testing under different lighting conditions, it works rapidly to correct the dynamic range to suit and is an impressive feature overall.

However, the main attraction here is the 3840x2160 resolution IPS panel—this 4K display is a thing of beauty. Without even diving deep into the color settings, this screen is full of life and has a strong contrast without harsh sharp edges. With the HDRi mode switched on, colors appear bold but not over-saturated and it features a wide color gamut of 98 percent P3, delivering the vibrancy that makes this screen look so crisp. For a non-VA display, the dark colors are rich and give great depth of field in gaming scenarios. Viewing angles are also impressive and the screen isn’t too reflective under direct light. One slight negative is that the display only offers 300 nits of brightness.

The snappy 144Hz refresh rate with a response time of 1ms makes it ideally suited to gaming, especially with its vivid and immersive display. With a 32-inch 4K monitor, velvety smooth resolution, wide color gamut, fast response time, and that 144Hz refresh rate, one of the main issues will be finding a PC that can get the most out of this BenQ screen. Ideally you want enough grunt to run everything on maximum settings to make the most of it.

All this does come at a price though, and, at $1100, it’s a fairly steep one. But if you can afford the cost, then this is a display that can do it all. It features a decent speaker system and even includes a microphone too.
