LG’S CURVED BEAUTY

240Hz of gaming perfection

-

LG HAS a range of monitors called UltraGear, aimed directly at gamers, and it has announced a new flagship model, the 45-inch 45GR95QE. Big, and now, for the first time, curved with an 800mm radius, so your head won’t be far away from the action, it features the world’s first 240Hz OLED panel, exclusive to LG. This has a resolution of 3,440x1,440, a fast response of 0.03ms, and a contrast ratio of 1,500,000:1, thanks to the OLED panel, meaning you get proper blacks. There’s an anti-glare coating to limit any annoying reflections. Connection is via Display Port 1.4, and a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports. There’s also a USB 3.0 hub and a headphone jack. It has a typical DCI-P3 of 98.5 percent (the color space), so you’ll get a rich range of colors ideal for HDR content.

It’s a good-looking panel too, beautifully slim with a svelte surround and not a distracting logo on view. Apart from the size, LG is making the most noise about the refresh rate, which coupled with a near-instantaneous response rate, means minimal lag, smears, and ghosting. If you’re running a high-end graphics card you need a monitor that keeps pace, otherwise, those extra frames generated are pointless.

This highly-anticipated beauty was announced a few months ago. However, at 45-inches and a resolution of 2K, it means the pixel density is on the low side, which you’ll notice if you’re used to a smaller screen at the same resolution. There’s a smaller sibling too, the 27-inch model featuring a similar 240Hz OLED panel— this one is flat, and has a resolution of 2,560x1,440. The 27GR95QE costs $999, and the 45GR95QE will set you back $1,699. Yes, that’s a lot, but high-end cards deserve high-end screens.
