Razer Basilisk V3 Pro + Mouse Dock Pro Bundle

Is this the peripheral combo your desktop needs?

- –SAM LEWIS

AS WELL AS the likes of the Naga, Viper, Death Adder, and Orochi, Razer also has the mythical Basilisk in its mouse lineup. The Basilisk V3 Pro sits toward the high end of the Razer mouse range, with the Pro suffix meaning it should have all that was great about the previous Basilisk V3 plus some improved internals and functionality. Starting from a foundation as strong as this, surely that’s a recipe for success in itself? But there’s more...

This bundle from Razer comes in at just under $200 and contains the Mouse Dock Pro, a wireless charging docking system to keep the Basilisk V3 Pro juiced up. So, for this hefty price, is this Razer duo a worthy addition to your setup?

The Pro model is similar in design to the previous version. It adheres to a more multi-genre-based, all-in-one mouse with more functions than a typical stripped-down esports lightweight mouse. Weighing 0.24lbs, it has a more premium feel to it giving you a smooth steady glide when using it. Style-wise, the Basilisk V3 Pro has an ergonomic shape fitting the curvature of your hand and, just like its predecessor, is far from a symmetrical design. Comfortable would be an understatement and if you intend to be using a mouse for long durations, either for gaming or work, that’s an inevitable requirement.

The overall chassis is textured black plastic with rubberized sides for additional grip, which works well over long periods of time. The mouse keeps the same RGB as before, a small but effective amount with an even dispersion. There is a thin strip of under-glow, the Razer logo lights up and the ring around the scroll wheel has a subtle glow.

The scroll wheel is one of the party pieces for the Basilisk V3 Pro. By default, it has a tactile stepped feel. However, press the button just below it and it changes into an extremely smooth freescrolling wheel. It’s incredibly easy to scroll using this method and of course, is swappable on the fly. You thought we were done with the scroll wheel? Not only does it have a button when you press down on it, but you can also click it sideways for extra control, all of which is customizable in the Razer Synapse app.

BUTTONED UP The mouse has a total of 11 buttons including the ones above and a profile button underneath. Where your thumb rests on the left, there are two side buttons for forward and backward in a web browser and an additional button that is set up as a sensitivity clutch. Press this while aiming your cursor and it will give you much greater control by slowing down the cursor speed, which also works in creative applications too.

Underneath the mouse, there are five PTFE feet to help it glide smoothly across your mouse pad. Here we can also take a look at the wireless capabilities. You’ll find a dummy puck at the bottom, twist this to open up the cavity where you can store the mouse’s wireless USB receiver. With the Mouse Dock Pro, you get a wireless chagrin puck that you can add to the mouse for wireless charging functionality. The Dock Pro is aesthetically pleasing with a flat, smooth surface where the mouse attaches magnetically, making charging a breeze. You can connect a USB Type-C cable directly to the front of the mouse too if you are taking this thing on the go and leaving the dock behind.

In terms of performance, this mouse doesn’t disappoint. With a range of sensitivity options to change on the fly, a maximum sensitivity of 30,000dpi, Razer’s HyperSpeed Wireless connectivity, Bluetooth, up to 90 hours battery life, Gen-3 optical mouse switches with a lifespan of 90 million clicks, and a Focus Pro 30K optical sensor, this mouse has plenty of top-end features.

So, then, is this Razer Basilisk V3 Pro bundle worth your time and money? The problem is that it’s not a simple yes or no answer. If you’re looking for a premium mouse that ticks a lot of boxes, paired with effortless wireless charging capabilities to make your day-to-day life that bit easier, then this mouse covers all of that without a doubt. The issue here is for that price, you expect nothing less. The mouse on its own costs $170, so there is a decent saving to be made by purchasing this mouse and dock bundle. The issue is that the standard Basilisk V3 costs under $70, which makes the Pro variant a bit of a hard sell.
