American Legion Benefit Dinner

Pineville/Jane American Legion Post 392 will be having their third Friday benefit dinner Aug. 19. The dinner, a fiesta prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary, will feature enchiladas, Spanish rice, refried beans, salad, drinks and dessert. Serving will start at 4:30 p.m. A donation of $7 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under is requested. Everyone is welcome, and carry-outs are available. The Legion building is located on Jessie James Road next to the Cornerston­e Bank in Pineville.

Cooking Class

Take a closer look at two important building blocks of a great mealtime during “Hands-On Cooking: Let’s Focus on Grains!” with Nutrition Program Associate Eden Stewart from McDonald County’s University of Missouri Extension Office. This fun, adult cooking class will take place at the Southwest City location of the McDonald County Library at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25. Space is limited, and registrati­on is required. Senior Center Dinner/Dance

The Stella Senior Center will have a dinner and dance Friday evening, Aug. 19. Starting at 5:30 p.m., they will serve a grilled chicken supper with dessert and drink for $5. At 7 p.m., “The McDonald County Playboys” will provide the music for the dance for $3.

Mill Creek Baptist Church Homecoming

Mill Creek Baptist Church, establishe­d in 1904, will celebrate 112 years of worship and service to the Lord with its annual Homecoming at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21. The Gould family will sing, and Brother Mark Hall will bring us God’s message followed by lunch in the fellowship hall. The little white church on the banks of Mill Creek was used for the wedding scene in the filming of the Jesse James movie during the 1930s. The church is located 3.5 miles east of Noel, just off Highway 90. Everyone is welcome. Just follow the signs.

Snider’s Camp

During Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2-4, the Jana Jae Fiddle Camp and Music Festival will be providing the free entertainm­ent at Snider’s Camp, located just south of Grove on the bank of Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees. All events are free to the public. Everyone is invited to bring their lawn chairs and experience great food and entertainm­ent Friday and Saturday nights. The events will include an amateur fiddle contest, live music featuring Jana Jae and the Osage Stomp String Band, and guitar, fiddle, bass and mandolin workshops. Youth Fly-Tying/ Casting Class Offered

Saturday, Aug. 27, in Pineville, Young Outdoorsme­n United will host an event for youth ages 10-18 who are interested in making trout-fishing flies and learning how to cast a fly rod. Participan­ts will receive hands-on lessons from MAKO Fly-Fishers organizati­on volunteers on using and casting fly rods and making their own fishing flies. Twelve youth will be selected by random draw for this limited event. To register, call 417-439-8594 by Aug. 23. All entries will be notified Aug. 24. Cost is free to all Young Outdoorsme­n United members or $2 for non-members.
