The CityLimits Car Club held a show at River Ranch on Saturday to raise money for the Noel Summer Ball Program.

Trevyn Faulkner of CityLimits Car Club said probably 60 to 80 cars arrived throughout the day from places including Fort Smith, Springfield, Jay and Tulsa. The club had a fundraising car show for the ball program last year, he said, and raised $1,800 without charging spectator and entry fees. Having added those fees this year, the club was looking to beat last year’s record, he said.

“I think this is awesome,” said Jeff Jones, who works with the Noel Summer Ball Program. “If we can get the community to show up and support a cause like this, we need more of this. We get to have a good time and support the Noel Summer Ball Program.” He added that organizers have been planning the event for more than a year.

“We had 104 kids play last season (but) only about 20 could afford to pay. We’ve got to do what we can to get these kids to play ball,” Jones said. “People want the community to do good, and we’re just basically giving them a way to do it.”

John Wilhite of Grove, Okla., was among those who brought a vehicle to show. He brought a 1937 Ford slant-back sedan. He said he has put quite a bit of work into it.

“It still needs some paint work, but we’re getting closer,” he said.

David Moore of Fayetteville brought a 1967 Impala Supersport. He has had the car for 19 years. When he got the car it was white. He painted it marina blue.

“It’s pretty much original except the color, and I added disk brakes to the front,” he said.

Dale VanSickle of Bentonville brought a 1952 Ford F1. He bought it as a farm truck in Wisconsin, he said. He has had the truck six or seven years. Everything is original except the paint, chrome and new upholstery, and he changed it from 6 volt to 12 volt.

“It took about four and a half years to get it to where it looks like it does,” he said. “I get tons of looks and thumbs up.”

In addition to the rows of cars to look at, there were food vendors on hand, a band and a dunking booth.

John Poyner, owner of River Ranch, donated the use of his property for the fundraiser. He said, “It’s a good thing that we can help the ball program out, have a good time and enjoy some cars.”
