Myers Park Almost Ready For Grand Opening

- Rita Greene

Mayor Gregg Sweeten opened the Pineville City Council meeting Tuesday announcing that the improvements and additions to Myers Park at 700 Olin St., behind City Hall, are almost complete and there will be a Grand Opening of the refurbished park Saturday, Sept. 24.

All new playground equipment and a new rock barbecue grill has been added, and the layout for parking has been much improved.

Sweeten said a few changes have been made to the city staff handbook which includes clearly defining overtime pay requirements.

Sweeten discussed the need for a storage trailer at the Pineville Primary School. Sweeten said no dimensions for the trailer have been decided upon yet, nor exactly where it will be located.

Alderman Jeff Slish noted that ordinances and codes will have to be followed regarding the addition of the trailer. The council decided to table a final decision regarding the storage trailer until more information is obtained.

Sweeten noted to the council that he has been researching the cost of replacement cell phones for staff members who have a need on their jobs. He said he has found that US Cellular in Joplin offers some specials, which would save money.

Sweeten said there would be some upfront costs, but in the end, those costs would be reimbursed, and overall, the new phones would save money. He said the new phones also would come with insurance.

The council approved of the purchase of new cellular phones.

Tinsley said the city apartment complex compound meters have become dysfunctional. The council approved $1,000 to fix them.

Chris Owens, marshal, said he got bids for a transmission for the Crown Victoria car. He discussed the cost of a rebuilt transmission and the comparison of costs of a new transmission and a rebuilt one.

Owens and the council decided a new transmission is required and the council approved of $3,420 for a new one.
