- Rick Peck

Four carpentry students from McDonald County High School won the state Teamworks title at the SkillsUSA competition April 6-8 at State Technical College of Missouri in Linn, Mo.

Corvin Black, Zane Eslick, Dillon Pyles and Dylan Teague earned a trip to the national SkillsUSA competition with their state title. The national competition will be held in June in Louisville, Ky.

“We represented McDonald County very well,” said Mark Kaufman, MCHS construction technology instructor. “They are a good group of young gentlemen and I am very proud of them.”

Teamworks competition consists of four team members building a small structure. Each team member is assigned to one of four disciplines — carpentry, plumbing, electrical or masonry.

All four of the team members were very excited to win a state championship and advance to nationals.

“I enjoyed the experience and how everybody had to work together to get finished,” Teague said. “The most interesting part was walking around and seeing how everyone else did their projects.”

“I am excited to go to nationals to represent the state of Missouri, but most importantly McDonald County High School,” Eslick said.

“At state I learned a lot by competing on this level,” Black said. “It was a fun and enjoyable learning experience.”

“At state we were able to walk around and see how everyone else

did their project and it was interesting to see how many ways there was to build the same project,” Pyles said.

McDonald County also had several other students competing at the state competition, but no others qualified for nationals.

Leading the remaining state qualifiers was Auston Reinke, who took third in plumbing. Rounding out the rest of McDonald County finishes were Jacob Bennett, fifth place, building repair tech; Chance Cawood, sixth place, carpentry; Jacob Tuell, sixth place, carpentry tech info; Andrew Link, 14th place, construction tech info; and, Isaac Richards, sixth place, electrical construction wiring.
