John Steven Humbyrd, 56, of Tiff City, Mo., died Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Eaton Rapids, Mich., after a sudden illness. He was born March 9, 1961, in Great Lakes, Ill.

As a child he lived with his family in Oklahoma, California and Michigan before moving to Tiff City at the age of 12. He graduated in 1979 from McDonald County High School, from Wyoming Technical Institute for Auto/ Diesel Technology in 1981, Tulsa Technology Center in 2001 as a Class A machinist. He later attended Tulsa Community College from 2001-2005. He was employed at Baker-Hughes Incorporat­ed, Tulsa, Okla.

He was quick to laugh, always willing to talk and he was someone who genuinely cared about people. He enjoyed cooking, being in the hay field and visiting with people anywhere and everywhere he went.

In recent years, he moved from Bixby, Okla. to Gypsum, Kan., and was currently living back where he called home, Tiff City.

He is survived by his daughter, Shelby Humbyrd of St. Louis, Mo.; his parents, Virgil and Sue Humbyrd of Joplin, Mo.; two brothers, Wayne and wife Sandy Humbyrd of Hollister, Mo., Skip and wife Julie Humbyrd of Redings Mill, Mo.; sister, Lisa and husband Jeff White of Joplin, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; numerous extended family; and a host of friends.

Memorial service was Friday, May 26, 2017, at Buffalo Creek Baptist Church in Tiff City, Mo. John Mitchell and Jeff White officiated.
