City Of Goodman Developing First Land-Use Plan
Goodman residents have the opportunity to plan and build for the future as they develop the city’s first-ever Comprehensive Land Use Plan.
The Comprehensive Land Use Plan for the city, to be developed by the Harry S. Truman Coordinating Council, will help Goodman set planning and zoning regulations, dream for the future and plan long-term, said HSTCC Executive Director Jill Cornett.
Residents met Tuesday evening for the first public meeting of its kind. Cornett said public input is required and encouraged.
The HSTCC was tapped by the Department of Defense to work on a landuse plan to protect the mission of Camp Crowder near Neosho, Cornett said. From that work, other joint land-use plans are being developed. Neosho is updating its land-use plan, and Goodman is developing its first, she said.
Among numerous topics, Cornett and other staff members shared their thoughts on how residents could tackle issues that are important to them, plan for the future, entertain solutions and brainstorm ideas for growth.
Those on hand were asked to come up with questions for a survey to be distributed to Goodman residents. Topics for the survey included senior housing and enhanced park facilities, public transportation and availability of living-wage jobs, sewer and street repair, more retail, increasing sales and property tax, revitalizing the downtown area and more.
In all, almost two dozen topics were broached.
Cornett said she will take all the topics and draft a survey, then submit that draft to the City Council for its approval.
When that is approved, a survey will be available for city residents.
After the survey is complete, officials will then compile the survey’s results to provide a foundation for moving forward with a plan of priorities for the city.
The next meeting will take place at 7 p.m. July 25 at Goodman City Hall.
