Track Teams Each Take Second At Mustang Stampede

The McDonald County High School boys’ and girls’ track teams both took second place in a shortened field of five teams in the rain-delayed 9/10 Mustang Stampede held on April 2 at MCHS.

The McDonald County High School boys’ and girls’ track teams both took second place in a shortened field of five teams in the rain-delayed 9/10 Mustang Stampede held on April 2 at MCHS.

Carthage won both team titles, including edging McDonald County 166 to 145.5 for the boys’ title. Monett was third with 34, followed by Lamar with 26.5 and Seneca with 14.

The Lady Tigers dominated the field to win the girls’ championsh­ip with 156.66 points, followed by McDonald County with 99.33, Monett 61, Lamar 26.5 and Seneca 14.

Leading the way for the McDonald County boys was Corbin Jones. The sophomore won two individual events, took second in another and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay.

Jones won the 100 (11.3) and the triple jump (39-11) while taking second in the long jump (18-0.25). He was joined by Jeobany Marcos, Eh Doh Say and Brandon Garcia to win the 4x100 in a time of 48.1.

Other McDonald County wins were by John Howard in the 400 (54.6), Michael Williams in the long jump (18-8.75) and the 4x800 relay of Cale Adamson, Garrett Spears, David Lazalde and Elijah Habert (9:20.3).

Williams added second places in the high jump (5-8) and triple jump (39-9.5) and a fifth in the 200 (25.3), while Adamson was second in the 400 (57.3) and Habert was second in the 800 (2:18.8).

Rounding out top five finishes for McDonald County were: Say, fourth, 100, 12.5 and fifth, 300 hurdles, 49.0; Logan Renner, third, 400, 58.4; Marcos, fifth, 400, 59.1; Tyler Moritz, fifth, 800, 2:29.0; Spears, third, 1600, 5:10.9 and fourth, 3200, 11:09.8; Lazalde, fourth, 1600, 5:12.4; Ryan King, fifth, 3200, 15:12.7; Joel King, second, 110 hurdles, 18.6, and fourth, 300 hurdles, 47.0; Garcia, Say, Marcos and Renner, third, 4x200 relay, 1:42.6; Howard, Adamson, Marcos and Habert, second, 4x400 relay, 3:51.1; Renner, Moritz, Parker Harris and Jordan Underwood, third, 4x400 relay, 4:13.1; Dylan Allison, third, high jump, 5-4, fifth, triple jump, 36-3, and fourth, long jump, 16-1; Patton Guzman, second, pole vault, 10-0; Johnny Cisneros, third, pole vault, 8-6; Garcia, fifth, long jump, 15-10.25; Eric Munos, second, javelin, 102-3, and fourth, discus, 78-0; and, Kaidan Campbell, fifth, discus, 74-8.

Girls

Distance runner Addy Mick led the Lady Mustangs. Mick won the 1600 (6:07.25), the 3200 (13:40.9) and ran a leg on the winning 4x800 relay (11:12.7). The sophomore also got a second with a leg on the 4x400 relay (5:04.9).

Rita Santillan had a win and three seconds. The sophomore won the 100 (13.7) and took second in the 200 (29.0). She also ran a leg on the 4x100 (57.7) and 4x200 relays (2:03.0) that took second.

Chloe Teague had McDonald County’s only other win, taking the pole vault with a jump of 8-0. Teague led a 1-2-3-5 finish in the event, with Caitlyn Barton taking second (7-6), Kelly Brennand taking third (7-6) and Sammi Dowd in fifth (6-6).

Barton added a second in the 4x100 relay and a third in the 200 (29.2).

Rounding out the top five finishes for the Lady Mustangs were: Sage Moore, tie for third, 100, 14.8 and second, 4x100 relay; Adyson Sanny, fourth, 800, 2:50.6, first 4x800 relay and second, 4x400 relay; Makaiela Thacker, fifth, 300 hurdles, 58.9; Erin Cooper, second, 4x100 relay, second triple jump, 28-6.5, and fourth, long jump, 13-2.5; Brooklynn Winters, second, 4x400 relay and first, 4x800 relay; and Alison Nicoletti, second, discus, 70-10, and fourth, shot put, 27-2.5.

The next 9/10 meet is set for April 12 at East Newton High School.
