Board Dis­cusses Fu­ture Safe Room

The McDon­ald County R-1 School Dis­trict Board of Ed­u­ca­tion, at its Oct. 11 meet­ing, dis­cussed con­tracts on a fu­ture FEMA safe room that will be built at Noel Pri­mary School.

Brad Ir­win of Paragon, the ar­chi­tect for the project, pre­sented two con­tracts for the board’s ap­proval. Su­per­in­ten­dent Mark Stan­ton had sev­eral ques­tions about the con­tracts, and the board de­cided to ta­ble the con­tracts and con­tinue ne­go­ti­a­tions while get­ting an opin­ion from the board’s at­tor­ney. The board did pass a grant man­age­ment form that Ir­win pre­sented.

Stan­ton re­ported to the board that he talked to Con­trolled Tech­nol­ogy So­lu­tions, the builder for the ath­letic sports com­plex and the new turf field, and it is sched­uled to start the field on Oct. 29.

Tran­spor­ta­tion di­rec­tor Clyde David­son re­ported the dis­trict got a grant for three buses at $22,000 per bus.

Bob Camp­bell, di­rec­tor of fa­cil­i­ties and main­te­nance, re­ported the boiler at Noel El­e­men­tary needed to be re­placed. The board ap­proved the ex­pen­di­ture.

In other busi­ness, the board heard a pre­sen­ta­tion from Lizzie Wilkin­son of Rocky Com­fort El­e­men­tary School about the hunter ed­u­ca­tion pro­gram and the green­house that she runs there.
