When The Storms Of Life Come Your Way, Who Will You Turn To?

- By Joyce Walters

Another precious Lord’s day was shared and blessed prayers to everyone.

Brother Bob Cartwright, our pastor, sang a song that none of us had ever heard. The words were aimed right at the hearts of God’s people. It spoke of the discouragements that we face every day. Many times we are sad and blue. Have you ever had a day like that? The next part of the song turned things around by saying, we can look to the one and only help that is always there.

You know so many times, we put our faith in man and cannot find our way through the battle. We need to turn our face toward heaven and rid ourselves of the torment Satan sends our way. We live in troublesome times and many may be going through hard times and find no peace. We are not aware of the sorrow many face in the still of the night. We need to be asking the Father if we can be of help to another, God will often impress us to go to a brother or sister and in love be a comfort to them. The sad part is, so many times, we miss this opportunity because we question ourselves, not sure that we should approach one in need.

Think about how God will always instruct you to do good. We must obey the Holy Spirit and listen to that still small voice. We need to tell the world, we have already read the book and in the end, if we follow his commandments, we will be victorious.

Mark 4:35-41 marks a time when Jesus showed his power and glory. He sat in the ship and the multitude gathered on land to hear him minister. After a day of parables and truths of the word, he spoke to his disciples and told them to pass over to the other side. He was sleeping in the back of the ship after a long day, but was told by the men there arose a great storm and the winds and waves were beating against the ship. They called to the Master and asked, “Do you not care for us that we may perish?” At that point, Jesus arose and rebuked the wind and said unto the sea, “Peace, be still.” At the sound of his voice, the wind ceased and there was a great calm. He said unto them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?” When they saw the words spoken had saved them, they feared exceedingly and said one to another, “What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Even though they had walked and talked with Jesus, they still did not understand the power he possessed. In Matthew 28:16-20 we find the spirit of doubt was still in the hearts of some of the 11 who had come to the mountain. Jesus spoke to them and told them, “All power is given to me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Teach, that they must observe all things, whatsoever, I have commanded you; and know I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” He was teaching them that the only sure help in time of trouble is the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost. Know where to find your help.

John 14:12 -17 assures us that if we believe, we shall ask whatsoever we will in Jesus name and He will do it. Verse 15 goes one step further and says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments. In the book of Luke 12:31, we are instructed to seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you. Verse 32 tells that it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom in due time.

In closing, Pastor reminded us that being in the house of God is where we get our instruction and encouragement through the word and support of our church family.

A welcome to everyone who would like to be a part of this congregation and join in worship services where Pastor Bob Cartwright ministers the truth. Plan to attend and be blessed by Bible teachings every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Bible study at 6 p.m. every Wednesday. All services are held at Cove Mission of Hope Church, located at 53 MO-59, southwest of Lanagan.

Think about how God will always instruct you

to do good. We must obey the Holy Spirit and listen to that still

small voice.
