Junior High Boys’ Cross Country Wins Big 8

The McDonald County junior high boys’ cross country team had five runners finish in the top 16 to lead the Mustangs to the Big 8 Conference championsh­ip held on Oct. 14 at East Newton High School.

Gunner Cooper led the Mustangs with a ninth-place finish in a time of 9:30.9.

Lane Pratt was next for McDonald County, taking 11th in 9:36.7. He was followed by Corbin Holly in 12th in 9:37.7; Christian Howerton, 13th, 9:37.9; and Holton Keith, 16th, 9:46.2.

Rounding out the McDonald County results were Noah Howerton in 20th in 9:53.5; Carson Brock, 24th, 10:02.8; Dylan Ferdig, 29th, 10:10.0; Caleb Garvin, 32nd, 10:15.3; Kevin Paxtor, 34th, 10:17.1; Tyler Rothrock, 41st, 10:39.3; Ayden Ball, 53rd, 11:07.6; Kylian Gottfried, 55th, 11:07.6; Jeremiah Haddock, 61st, 11:23.7; Darin Wofford, 81st, 12:43.4; and Caleb Cline, 107th, 15:58.5.

Cameron Bailey of Lamar Middle School won the individual conference title in a time of 8:51.2.

McDonald County totaled 61 points to win the team title over Lamar, in second with 75 points. Logan-Rogersvill­e was third, with 87 points, followed by Nevada with 148, Springfiel­d Catholic 160, Monett 164, Marshfield 190, Cassville 199, East Newton 202, Aurora 225, Reeds Spring 236 and Hollister 348.

Girls

Hayley Allen took 18th in a time of 11:27.6 and Madison Burton was 21st in 11:38.5 to lead the McDonald County junior high girls’ team.

Rounding out the results for the Lady Mustangs were Chloe Burk, 42nd, 12:51.5; Jaslyn Billups-Wright, 45th, 12:58.1; Eva Habert, 50th, 13:19.6; and Paige Owens, 63rd, 14:47.3.

Katie Gallegos of Springfiel­d Catholic won the individual title in a time of 10:23.6.

Cassville won the team championsh­ip with 43 points, followed by Springfiel­d Catholic with 56, Logan-Rogersvill­e 64, Monett 97, McDonald County 127, Marshfield 151, Lamar 161 and Aurora 203.
