For this issue, MJ regular Devin Gordon profiled slugger Pete Alonso, a bright spot for the famously misfortunate Mets— as Gordon well knows. His book So Many Ways To Lose: The Amazin’ True Story of the New York Mets, the Best Worst Team in Sports (out in August) recounts the franchise’s history of blunders. We asked him to pick his top three Mets whiffs, but he said, “This is like having 9,000 children and being forced to choose three of them.” Still, Alonso gives him and other Mets fans “something to be stupid and naively optimistic about.”
