The Fascinating Artifacts from the Seabed
Rivets recovered and conserved by RMS Titanic, Inc. at Titanic’s wreck site. Over 3 million were used weighing nearly 1,200 tons and it took 4 men to install each one.
This wrench, currently on display at TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition in Las Vegas, was used to hold the jamb nut in place while engineers adjusted the steam admission valves in the main reciprocating engines. It measures 20” long, 9 ¾” wide, and is 1 ¾” thick.
While Titanic’s crew worked tirelessly below decks, the First-class passengers in the upper decks were treated with plenty of activities to keep them fit and trim. A fully stocked gymnasium included cycling, rowing, horse-riding equipment, and a gym instructor, T. W. Mccawley.
