On Sun­day, De­cem­ber 9th, Bennie James Hooten passed away at the age of 83. Also known as “B.J.”, he was a lov­ing hus­band, fa­ther and papa.

Bennie was born in Quit­man, Arkansas, Novem­ber 6th, 1935 to Lula and Tom Hooten. Bennie en­listed in the Navy at age 17 and served our coun­try for four years. He later re­tired from United Gro­cers. BJ had a life­long pas­sion for horses, rop­ing and rid­ing. Tall, slim and hand­some he was a true cow­boy and won many rop­ing com­pe­ti­tions.

Bennie is sur­vived by lov­ing wife Mar­cella Hooten, daugh­ters Pamela Welch, Lisa Ross and Gina Green, step-sons Bobby Roberts and Ken­neth Roberts, six grand­chil­dren and nine great­grand­chil­dren. He is pre­ceded in death by daugh­ters Roselle Reynolds and Darla Hooten, and grand­son Brett Neil.

There will be a grave­side ser­vice Mon­day, Jan­uary 7th at 1PM at Merced Cal­vary Ceme­tery.
