- From Miami Herald Wire Services

Brazilian Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani scored as Paris Saint-Germain made it three wins in three Ligue 1 games this season with a 3-1 victory against Angers on Saturday.

Cavani got the defending champions off to a good start after Neymar was given too much space by the Angers defense.

The Brazilian’s pass was deflected in the 12th minute and Cavani had no trouble converting on his first league start of the season.

German defender Thilo Kehrer then gave away a 22nd-minute penalty on his debut. Thomas Mangani duly equalized for Angers and new PSG coach Thomas Tuchel took his compatriot off at halftime.

Mbappe restored the home side’s lead early in the second half, letting fly inside the far post to claim his third goal in two games after Angel de Maria picked him out with a precise cross.

The 19-year-old Mbappe then combined with Adrien Rabiot before setting up Neymar for PSG’s third goal.

John Brooks scored his first goal since joining Wolfsburg last year to pave the way for a 2-1 win against Schalke. The 25year-old United States defender, who had a frustrating first season at the Volkswagen-backed club because of injury, met Maximilian Arnold’s corner with a powerful header. Wout Weghorst was shown a red card on his Wolfsburg debut but stayed on the field in a 2-1 win against 10-man Schalke as video assistant referee decisions again took center stage in the Bundesliga. Referee Patrick Ittrich had already sent off Schalke defender Matija Nastasic after an intervention from the VAR following a dangerous tackle on Weghorst in the 65th minute. Minutes later, Ittrich received another instruction to send Dutch forward Weghorst off after he bundled into Guido Burgstaller and knocked him over in retribution for a shove from the Schalke forward. However, the referee then consulted video replays and changed the red card to yellow. ... Fabian Johnson scored as Borussia Moenchengladbach beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 in the late game.

England: After failing

A to convince Premier

League rivals of the need for VAR, Manchester City has contributed more evidence why the technology is needed. It came at the cost of dropping two points early in its title defense. The champions fell behind at Wolverhampton when Willy Boly used his arm to divert the ball into the net when attempting to meet Joao Moutinho’s cross with a header. That was clear from the replays but England is the only major European league that has yet to allow referees to defer to a video assistant referee for a second opinion. With City at least recovering to draw 1-1 — through Aymeric Laporte’s header — City manager Pep Guardiola kept his cool. ... Mohamed Salah extended his extraordinary scoring run at Anfield when Liverpool beat Brighton 1-0 to make it three wins out of three without conceding in the Premier League. It maintained a 16-month undefeated league run at home, where Liverpool has now scored 20 goals without reply — the club’s best run in two decades. ... For the first time in 22 years a manager other than Ar- sene Wenger has led Arsenal to victory. At his third attempt, Unai Emery has his first win after the Gunners beat West Ham 3-1.

Italy: Two games, zero A goals. Cristiano Ronaldo is finding life in Serie A harder than he might have expected. The Portugal forward again drew a blank as Juventus beat Lazio 2-0, thanks to goals from Miralem Pjanic and Mario Mandzukic.

Spain: Real Sociedad

A couldn’t hold on to a twogoal lead at Leganes, conceding late in a 2-2 draw and missing a chance to keep its perfect away start in the Spanish league. Midfielder David Zurutu- za opened for the visitors in the 11th and Asier Illarramendi added to the lead six minutes later. But Moroccan midfielder Nabil El Zhar scored twice after halftime to give the hosts the tie. Sociedad will play at Eibar in the next round in its third straight away game because its Anoeta Stadium is being renovated. ... Getafe beat Eibar 2-0 at home with goals from Angel Rodriguez and Jorge Molina.
