Decorate your home DIY style with rustic touch
There are many different roads one can go down when choosing decorations for a home.
Selecting wall decor or art to fit a specific style for your home can be especially overwhelming as there are thousands of options available in stores and online.
So why not create decorative pieces to suit your unique style?
Incorporating wood into your do-it-yourself pieces can be a great yet simple way to add a rustic but diverse feeling to your home.
You can work these distinctive pieces into your decor by using wood of various sizes and shapes.
Wooden Lazy Susans and pedestal trays have become a popular trend in home design.
“That includes a plank sign, a round sign which could be a Lazy Susan, a pedestal tray, photo frames or just a round wall hanging,” says Jessica Estes, owner of AR Workshop St. Joseph.
There are several ways you can design wood decorations by staining, painting and even distressing them.
“We really try to have on-trend home decor. The designs are always changing and you can customize any piece, so some of them kind of have a technique done on them that’s more of something we call barn wood or chippy, so it’s like a distressing technique,” Estes explains.
To decorate wooden decor, you can use any brand of wood stain or interior paint. Stains come in a variety of colors from light to dark if you aren’t initially satisfied with the look of your wood.
“We use Sherwin-Williams paint and then one- by-four or plywood, just depends on the type of project that we’re doing,” Estes says.
To make sure your project has a finished look, you can use stencils or decals.
You can find supplies for your DIY projects at your local hardware or craft store.
