STELLAR SUCCESSES FOR BASS BALL, PAMM & DOLPHINS CANCER CHALLENGE

-

Romance, elegance and contemporary art set the scene for the annual Bass Ball. Did you know The Bass was founded in 1964 by the City of Miami Beach after the donation of a private collection by residents John and Johanna Bass? The Museum opened in what was formerly the Miami Beach Public Library and Art Center, a 1930s Art Deco building designed by Russell Pancoast. Love history! Yes, Miami Beach’s contemporary art museum has presented major exhibitions by influential artists including El Anatsui, Isaac Julien, Eve Sussman and Piotr Uklan´ski.

The Bass welcomed benefactors to the Museum for their yearly black-tie affair – which this time, channeled the artistic, visual and intellectual movement of 18th century Romanticism thanks to presenting sponsor Alexander McQueen. The Bass Ball is truly an extraordinary event which provides crucial support for the Museum’s ongoing education program, as well as the robust schedule of changing exhibitions.

George Lindemann, President of the Board of Directors of The Bass welcomed guests and thanked all for traveling from near and far to support the Ball. “Our city has a well-deserved reputation for wonderful beaches, as well as excellent cultural offerings,” said Lindemann. “The Bass has become a major part of Miami Beach’s cultural programming.”

“I would like to extend a very, very special thank you to Alexander McQueen, for partnering with us for The Bass Ball 2020. When art and fashion come together, we make magic happen,” stated Silvia Karman Cubiñá, Executive Director of The Bass stated. The Bass thanked Diane and Alan Lieberman for their generous support of the institution.

Congrats! Cheers to a decade of phenom fundraising, cycling and record-breaking participation across the tri-county area of 6,000 bikers, runners, walkers and volunteers at the event including Miami Dolphins executives, players, alumni and cheerleaders for the tenth annual Dolphins Cancer Challenge (DCC 10.) The South Florida community teamed up again for the Miami Dolphins’ event to raise funds for innovative cancer research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, a part of UHealth – the University of Miami Health System. Two-hundred and fifty cancer survivors participated in the cycling challenge-reinforcing the motivation of the DCC to tackle cancer. The Survivor Program presented by the Harcourt M. and Virginia W. Sylvester Foundation will continue to share the stories of the thriving survivors on the front line who galvanize efforts at the DCC.

“The Miami Dolphins are proud to host the largest fundraiser in the NFL and through this year’s Dolphins Cancer Challenge we are continuing that tradition with a record number of participants coming together to raise money for cancer research at Sylvester,” Miami Dolphins Foundation Executive Director

Jesse Marks said. “We are honored to once again be in the position to make another major gift to our partners at Sylvester who provide such a needed service to our community. Thank you to all of our partners, participants, donors and municipalities who come together to create such an impactful event for South Florida in the fight against cancer.”

“We are so grateful for this incredible partnership with the Miami Dolphins,” Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Director Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., said. “With the support of our community we have been able to cure an ever increasing number of patients with cancer over the past 10 years and develop new more effective approaches to preventing cancer. We have become an NCIdesignated cancer center and we look forward to even more cancer breakthroughs as a result of the funds raised through the Dolphins Cancer Challenge.”

Cyclists headed to the DCC 10 grand finale at the Finish Line presented by AutoNation while patrons celebrated at the Finish

The event also featured live entertainment throughout the day from the Ultimate Stage present by Ultimate Software. The DCC donates 100 percent of participantraised funds to innovative cancer research at Sylvester.

ART OF THE PARTY

Spell it out P-A-R-T-Y. That’s right, a major party rocked the

Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) as hundreds reveled at the sixth annual “Art of the Party” presented by Valentino. The magnificent evening turned out a who’s who of South Florida’s artistic community, philanthropists, civic leaders, and arts supporters for PAMM’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The evening honored Museum Trustee Susana Ibargüen and John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Chairman and CEO Alberto Ibargüen for their long-time support of the museum and its vital role in enhancing Miami’s arts community over the last two decades. The museum also toasted the awardee of the second annual Pérez Prize, Puerto Rican artist Daniel Lind-Ramos, in honor of his artistic achievements. Co-chaired by leading PAMM supporters Darlene and Jorge Pérez and Dorothy and Aaron Podhurst,

Art of the Party raised more than $1,300,000 for PAMM’s vital arts education program, the largest of its kind outside the Miami-Dade County school system.

“Art of the Party brings together Miami’s civic, philanthropic and cultural community to support an institution that reflects our shared values as a community and a city. At PAMM we believe in the transformative power of the arts and know that Miami’s vibrant creative community is part of what makes the city so great,” said PAMM Director Franklin Sirmans. “We aim to encourage everyone to see art as an incentive for genuine human interaction, communication, and exchange, and we’re proud to honor Susana and Alberto Ibargüen who share in this mission.”

Individual Lead sponsor Sylvia T. Pope and Supporting sponsor De Beers Jewellers joined four-time Presenting sponsor Valentino in supporting Art of the Party, which featured two unique experiences conceptualized by Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits and South Beach Wine and Food Festival founder Lee Brian Schrager. Chef’s Table guests enjoyed performances by violinist Jared Burnett and Juan Areco Duo while dining on a menu designed by talented chefs from Crest Restaurants: Gregory Pugin, Christopher Bellanca, Jackson Morrow, Seth Blumenthal, and Yara Mage, as well as Constellation Culinary Group’s Aaron Janus and Hedy Goldsmith.

Following Chef’s Table, PAMM’s waterfront Palm Terrace transformed into the Remix after party, featuring music by DJ Gabby Mejia, dancing, cocktails, bites, and decadent desserts under the stars. Guests were also able to remember the special night with a photo booth and live portrait studio.
