At this point in the coronavirus pandemic, sleep is an elusive commodity. It has fallen victim to anxiety, fear, social media meltdowns and repeated viewings of the paintball episodes of “Community” on Netflix.

And in Florida, Miami is one of the worst places to get a good night’s sleep.

According to a new study by Sleepopolis, which reviews mattresses, pillows, sheets and other sleep products, Miami is one of the worst cities in the state for sleep.

Miami ranks No. 246 out of 300 Florida cities mentioned in the study. If it’s any consolation, and it’s not, Hialeah came in at No. 267.

Doing somewhat better are West Kendall (No. 131) and Miami Beach (No. 129). Key Largo is No. 100, with a much-quieter-than-usual Key West ranking at No. 97.

So where in Miami-Dade are people actually getting a good night’s sleep? The No. 1 city for sleep in Florida, the survey says, is the village of Pinecrest. Great. We can’t afford to move there.

Other top 10 cities in Miami-Dade County: Key Biscayne (3); Miami Shores (5); and Palmetto Bay (8). Step it up, Coral Gables — the City Beautiful came in at 16.

So how exactly did Sleepopolis determine these rankings? By examining 10 key metrics including the smoking rate, insufficient sleep rate, mentally unhealthy days, physical inactivity, the unemployment rate and air pollution levels (high levels of air pollution correlate with high rates of asthma, cardiovascular disease and lung cancer, which are all linked to sleep apnea).

Income plays a role too. A high median income means a higher ranking. Pinecrest’s median income, according to the study, is $152,643; Miami’s is $33,999. The highest-ranked city in the country for sleep? Los Altos Hills in California, with a median income of $248,218.
