This special edition of the Daytime Emmy Award-winning children’s series addresses the COVID-19 pandemic in terms that may help young viewers better understand the extraordinary times they’re currently going through. The story finds Daniel dismayed to be told a local carnival to which he has been looking forward has been canceled. When he asks his parents why, they gently explain that many events and large gatherings have been put on hold due to current conditions. As his dad works from home, Daniel searches for ways to entertain himself.
8PM^ J PBS NewsHour Convention Coverage Most major networks, cable news channels and social media platforms begin coverage of the fourday Democratic National Convention, which is almost entirely being conducted remotely owing to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The week builds to a Thursday night climax, when presumptive nominee Joe Biden will formally deliver a speech accepting his party’s nomination for the presidency. Tonight’s schedule is largely given over to a series of other speakers, followed on Tuesday by the keynote address and roll-call vote, and Wednesday night’s acceptance speech by the vice presidential nominee.
8 PM ( A&E) Hoarders During his long career, retired architect Dennis learned the wisdom of repurposing materials from one project to another, but that practice has led him to amass a staggering amount of clutter over the years. Worse, now that his wife’s health situation has thrust him into the role of her primary caregiver, the projects he once genuinely intended to complete remain unfinished. Dr. Michael Tompkins, a psychologist, and extreme clean-up expert Matt Paxton tries to help Dennis get his situation under control before he loses everything to Code Enforcement regulations.
9 PM ( ESPN) NBA Basketball The 201920 NBA playoffs tip off today in the fanless bubble of Orlando, Fla., with three first-round games. A total of 16 teams will vie in eight best-of-seven series, the winners of which advance to the Conference Semifinals, which begin on Aug. 31. That’s followed by the Conference Finals (Sept. 15) and the NBC Finals, which commence on Sept. 30.
9 PM ( HBO) I May Destroy You Arabella’s (Michaela Coel) total obsession with Della inexplicably gets her creative juices flowing again, leading to unexpected but very welcome progress on her book in the new episode “Would You Like to Know the Sex?” Elsewhere, Kwame (Paapa Essiedu) finds himself wading into some completely uncharted waters with Tyrone (Gershwyn Eustache Jnr), and he also attempts to make amends with a disgruntled ex-flame. Weruche Opia also stars. 10 PM ( A&E) Intervention As a child, Courtney loved animals and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian when she grew up, but she was traumatized by the drowning death of her best friend when Courtney was only 7. The shock of that loss led her to shut down and turn moody, which led in turn to her experimenting with drugs as a teenager. When Courtney became a full-fledged addict in young adulthood, her mother helped her recover, but she relapsed again and now is so reckless that she’s using dirty needles in her habit.
10 PM ( DSC) Bad Chad Customs He’s achieved rousing small-town success when it comes to taking scraps of junkyard metal and transforming them into gleaming, one-of-a-kind hot rods, but master builder Chad “Bad Chad” Hiltz is ready to take things to the next level as he and his team return for a new season of their hit reality series. Joined by his fiancée, Jolene, and son Colton, Hiltz and his newly branded Hiltz Auto Co crew attempt a record seven builds in under six months, including their first-ever motorcycle build.
10 PM ( FOOD) Amy Schumer Learns to Cook Amy Schumer and her professional-chef husband Chris Fischer return with a new season of their quarantineproduced cooking show, a hit during its initial run a few months ago. In the Season 2 premiere, “Fresh, Not Frozen and Kids’ Menu.” Amy and Chris make frozen foods from scratch, including a piña colada, pigs in a blanket, pot stickers, mozzarella sticks and potato skins.
